About this listen
A divergent future with a thought-provoking feminist slant, Moths is perfect for those who loved The Power, The Handmaid's Tale and Vox.
Out they came, away from natural predators, nesting in damp corners and in the tops of trees, crossbreeding with common cousins and laying thousands upon thousands of eggs.
'Then...the eggs hatched and an army of hungry caterpillars spread their tiny toxic threads on every breath of wind.’ The threads spell doom for humanity - half of it, at least. All around the world, men are dying in their sleep or turning into rage-fuelled killers. The world, as we know it, ends. However, humanity adapts and society moves on.
Many years later, very few even remember what life was like before the change. Mary does, though, and when an opportunity presents itself, she is faced with soul-searching decisions to make. Will she cling to the only strand of the past she has left, or will she risk it all in the name of equality?

Dystopian future… but it’s not about teens
I was scrolling through Juanita McMahon’s audible content because she broke my heart with her astonishing recording of Madensky Square. This looked interesting. It is VERY interesting! I absolutely loved it, a really thrilling, beautifully told dystopian sci fi, in which a really old woman gets to do proper adventure protagonist stuff. It’s sweet and clever and believable - i mean the emotions are believable, rather than the sci fi, although the world building is consistent and sensible. I just bought the sequel today and absolutely can’t wait to start listening. Juanita McMahon by the way unrecognisable in this from Madensky Square - I prefer her sexy couturier voice but how clever and talented she is!

Absolutely fantastic!
This was a fabulous book, sad when it ended and left me thinking about it for sometime after. A great spin on if women became the dominant sex in a dystopian world.

Brilliant
One of the best books I have read in a long time. The author's writing is brilliant and the narrator is brilliant! I read the follow up "Toxxic", which also was brilliant. The characters were real and you felt for them. I WANT MORE BOOKS BY THIS BRILLIANT WRITER (with the same narrator if possible!).

A masterpiece
What an unbelievable experience to be swept away in the hands of such a virtuoso of literature both the author and the narrator. I only wish I would have a fraction of her skills as a wordsmith to do it justice here. Thank you both.

Wonderful Dystopian storytelling
I have listened to this twice in the last couple of years and think it’s one of my favourite of the “end of the world as we know it” novels.
It’s also nice when these take place in the UK as you feel more connected when the towns mentioned are nearby.
Now to start the sequel, Toxxic.

Cool idea for a story
I think this book had so much potential, as the beginning was gripping but it sort of petered out. Narrator was excellent. Story idea was unique, overall I liked it.

Intelligent and entertaining
I like dystopian sci-Fi especially when it has what I would describe as a feminist sensibility. It’s a fascinating story of “what if” full of moral nuances and resonances across human social history. It pulls no punches and just like real people, nobody is perfect. It’s incredibly well read which added to my enjoyment of the book. I’m quite ambivalent about audio books so I really value one that has me hooked and looking forward to listening more as well as giving me something to think about in between listening sessions. A huge thank you to author and narrator.

This is a masterpiece!
There was nothing to dislike about this book. The performance was top notch, the story was clever, believable, thought provoking and emotive. I didn’t realise sci-fi was my thing but I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this. I absolutely love the fact it’s older women with the leads. This would make an incredible film.
