Summary

The end of everything was her beginning....

It's November 2022. The human race has been wiped out by the 6DM virus (Six Days Maximum - the longest you've got before your organs disintegrate and you melt from the inside out). The end of the world as we know it.

Yet someone is still alive. Alone in a new world of burning cities, rotting corpses and ravenous rats, one woman has survived. A woman who has spent her whole life compromising what she wants and hiding how she feels to meet other people's expectations. From her career to her relationships, to what she wears and where she lives, she's made a lifetime of decisions to fit what other people want her to be.

But with no one else left, who will she become now that she's completely alone?

Outstanding, gripping novel with the perfect narration

Do buy this. I read the book when it first came out and loved it. Innovative and gripping, People talk about edge of the seat writing but this really lives up to that phrase. The characterisation and journey was profound and engaging. Whoever said it was like fleabag is doing it a disservice, This character is one who will stay with you: she has depth, wit, vulnerability and authenticity. She’s more of an every woman living inside us who we never let others see, a flawed, brave heroine. I was equally gripped by the audible book as the narration breathes life in to this complex character in a perfectly satisfying way. The best audible narration I’ve experienced so far and the acting is every bit as outstanding as the writing. Thank you.

Loved it

I wasn’t expecting to ever like the main character. But it was a gradual shift towards great fondness for the character. I’m so glad I listen to it on audio rather than having read it as I enjoyed the occasional sound affects and definitely the narration. I did laugh I did have a few tears and the last hour was very tense. Fantastic debut novel👍🏻👍🏻

Buy this book!!!!

Quite simply the best book on audible. Loved this from start to finish. So invested in this story and the unnamed heroine. An intense roller coaster that I never wanted to get off. I can't wait to see it televised and very much looking forward to a sequel. The narrator was phenomenal too. I will tell everyone to buy this, its fantastic. I could go into detail but simply don't want to give anything away. Just buy it, you won't regret it.

Glad I stuck it out.

At times I hated the protagonist because she was unbearably whiney, but the ending made it worth it.

Spellbinding

I read the book. I bought it on Audible . It’s the most original story I’ve read in years. I just loved it; it’s a cracking story filled with wit, wisdom, fear, and humour. Not a fluffy story a proper nail biter. I even shed a few tears along the way. Please, please write a sequel. I beg you. And thank you.

Loved this

I never write reviews and I'm not really a fan of apocalyptic fiction either but had to write something for this because I absolutely loved it. I found the character maddening and yet relatable, narration was fantastic, I even cried once. I can't wait to read this authors next book.

Best Book in Ages

I loved this book!! I didn't know how it would land for me, all things considered with the last few years, but it really triggered my imagination. I have struggled lately to find a book that I can stay with, but this is an audible 'page turner'. I recommend it totally and already have put several friends onto it, all are pleased with it so far. Great writer, look forward to her next. Let's hope its not about a world disaster as we will be forced to sit up and take notice.

For some reason I thought it was going to be fun.

It's not the book's fault. I was expecting it to be a light hearted 'last man on earth' style thing.

Instead it was one of the most depressing and unrelentingly bleak books I've ever listened to. But it was honest and believable and didn't glamorise the end of the world.

There have been a few reviews that call this just chic lit but I think that that's doing it a disservice. Just because the main protagonist was female and she spent periods of the book talking about her disastrous life but that's just the human experience. Perhaps this is just a more believable end of the world book because it deals with people with detailed and flawed pasts. How people cope with challenges will always be the heart of a book, not the challenges themselves.
