Summary
The party has to end sometime.
It all starts on New Year's Eve. A night that has to be a success, whatever the cost. For Joni and her friends, it'll be a party that promises all the high stakes and glamour of any other, but by sunrise, they'll be dealing with something darker than the usual post-party comedown.
Not that they let this stand in their way. For this is their year to revel in all that the playground of London has to offer: sneaking into places they shouldn't, breaking every rule, falling in love with the wrong people. All the while avoiding one undeniable truth: it's not if the party ends, it's how.
Just for Today is a bittersweet evocation of the end of innocence, and an exhilarating celebration of having nothing to lose - until suddenly, you do.

Phemomal debut!
I read this in print when it was first released in the UK but have only just finished the Audible version. Nell's narration brings Joni and the story to life. I was partially hearing her voice in my head while reading, but this brought it to a new level. She was able to augment her writer's knowledge of the characters with her dramatical experience, without it being overdone. I can't wait for more from her!

Great Actress, Author and now NARRATOR ♡
Nell Hudson, better known as an actress and regular cast member of television series Outlander and Victoria, debut novel gives as a melancholy glimpse into the lives of 20-something Londoners as they seek joy and encounter tragedy. The title reference advice for those encountering grief..."Just for Today" I will ..... Sage counsel from such a young author in her debut book. She spent her time in her actor's trailer well. Anxious to buy her next novel which she is currently writing. She also does an excellent job as the book narrator.

Just for today
I first thought this was a romp into the wild life of some party kids. As her story was ending I felt as is she spoke to me in her dealing with grief. The truth is you can handle grief one day at a time much better than being overwhelmed at the finality of forever. I loved this story.

Will read whatever you wrote next, Nell!
I’m not sure I’m even in the neighborhood for the target audience for this book, but I have enjoyed Nell’s performances in Victoria as the Queen’s Dresser, Nancy, and as Laoghaire MacKenzie in Outlander so much that I decided to buy this book. Creative people often excel in more than their primary mediums and Nell sure did here. I felt let into a world of a younger generation denied by my membership in the Boomer generation. I was definitely not ever part of a group of similar close friends like this even in my youth. She made me understand what it’s like to make a close knit family of a bunch of friends all in the same general stage of life.
As the story unfolds, what happens at the end of the book seemed to me so likely to happen… Nell did a terrific job of having her first person main character tell the story in a way the audience can see something coming and yet believe the character does not. Just like real life, when we’re too close to the situation we can be so blind to it!
Great first book, looking forward to her next!
