Fantastic!

I loved the storyline, the writing and narration! I would definitely recommend this for someone looking for a suspense book that keeps you occupied for 12 hours. Yes there were a few parts that were a little far fetched, but then it is a suspense story so I expect a little creativity to keep the reader/listener engaged. Its definitely made me nervous about taking a cruise though...

Great story

Another great listen from this author although I’ve got to say, if my lifelong dream had just come true, coinciding with finding out my long-term partner was cheating but had gone missing, I’d have rewritten my script first before searching for her.

Great storyline

loved this storyline, the suspense, twists and atmosphere, so I was powered along to finish it. however have deducted a star as the narration had a major fault for me in the totally wrong pronunciation of Anglesea Street as 'Angel sea street' (its Angle not Angel) and the pronunciation of Garda Síochána was also a bit iffy.

Gone Girl on a boat!

What made the experience of listening to Distress Signals the most enjoyable?

A great book matched with the ideal narrator. I finished it in less than 2 days.

What other book might you compare Distress Signals to, and why?

It has strong echoes of Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, but it's very much its own book. There is a slow and steady realisation that things are not as they seem, and in a possibly terrible way. As with both those books, I had to keep listening to find out what happened next.

What about Stephen Armstrong’s performance did you like?

Excellent narration - in particular I really felt I was inside the main character's head, hearing his thoughts.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment when Adam realises that there is more to things than his girlfriend having failed to return his messages - quietly chilling.

Any additional comments?

Not a criticism of this book, but I'd have liked even more about the cruise ship - it was a compelling part of the story and setting, and I felt like the author showed us something that many might think they grasp, but quickly realise we had no understanding of at all! As a reader/listener it's always great to get a secret glimpse into the inner workings. MORE PLEASE.

Gripping

Absolutely gripping. The style of the narrator took me a while to get used to and then had me believing every well placed word. I didn’t want to stop listening until I reached the end. So surprising a book.

Not one for a Cruise holiday!

This is a good, original, well written story. There is however a sub-story, which, despite being reasonably interesting in it's own right, was superfluous to the main story and I don't really get why it is there!

The narration is not good. The rhythm and pace are fine, but the accents are terrible, to the point of being laughable if I hadn't been desperately trying to disattend to them whilst staying with the tension created by the story. The English accent changes between nearly English, with a smattering of Irish within sentences and, what I believed to be Eastern European for the first half of the book, is apparently intended as French! It's truly awful, and only recognisable as French because we were told, and also because half way through the narrator began speaking like a cast member from Allo, Allo!

The book must be good. Otherwise, I would have abandoned it part way through due to the poor narration.
