Summary

Cambridge, October 1933. Inside the old All Hallows Church on All Hallows' Eve, Doctor Adelaide Hartest bears witness to the final moments of a dying stranger.

Despite the dagger plunged into the stranger's chest, the death is ruled a suicide, compounded by a formal confession before death. The victim, it is revealed, is known to Scotland Yard, and Assistant Commissioner Joe Sandilands is sent all the way from London to investigate.

Some glaring factual errors

The factual errors were really annoying. Twice at least the story mentions the police referring a criminal to the Crown Prosecution Service. I for one would lounge to know how. The story is set in the 1930s. The CPS was only founded in 1986! It was the police themselves which prosecuted individuals before then. If the author could make such a glaring error l am left doubt the authenticity of all the other historical facts given in this book. Were it not for this l would have enjoyed this book far more. The error really grated with me.
