Summary
Can you turn the clock back on your first love? Would you even want to try?
Alex McCann and Teodora "Ted" Vasquez left Cambio Springs together. Ted came back. Alex didn't. Now, years later, the future alpha of the McCann wolves has returned with plans to bring new life to the dying desert community. Plans that could change everything for the isolated enclave of shapeshifters in the California desert. Some love the plan. Others hate it. As the town's doctor and one of the strongest daughters in the cat clan, Ted has her own concerns about exposing her community to outsiders. The two former lovers are at each other's throats. And everyone is watching to see what happens. But when murder once again strikes Cambio Springs, can they overcome their past to help the community they both call home? And can the love they shared once burn again when so many stand against it?
Desert Bound is an adult paranormal romance in the Cambio Springs Mysteries series.

DESPERATE: repetitive, repetitive, repetitive!
This is so much WORSE than the first book in the series. I will not be reading any more.
In this novel, the shape changing characters seem to prefer their animal form to their human form which is at odds with Book 1?
Initially, the love scenes are appealing and well written but, then the author un does any good by, repeating, repeating, repeating, repeating.
She does the same with the internal and external arguments. She repeats them over, over and over again. This book should be edited and thinned down to a long short story.
Mid teenagers might like this. I am not sure? The author herself does not seem to have invested much into this story.

Good, But Not Quite Up To Par
I enjoyed the first book in this series, as well as the novellas. I believe Ms. Hunter is an extremely talented author. Desert Bound was not a bad book and was eminently readable. If written by someone else I might have rated it higher. However, I felt that she wasn't terribly committed to this plot. After the years of tension, hurt feelings, anger, frustration and regret between the two main characters, their differences seemed fairly insurmountable. Then they reunited so abruptly it seemed almost anti-climactic. And while her books are usually chock full of characters, that works because she either proves their value to the story by the end of the book or makes it clear she is setting a character up in this book that will reoccur in future story lines with a purpose. I felt like there were superfluous characters in this book, involved in fairly heavy scenes and then disappearing without any idea of why they were included.
Again, enjoyable book and definitely worth reading if you liked the first book in the series. I recommend you read the first book in the series and the novellas before reading this book. Just not up to her best efforts

Steamy Mystery!
This book was definitely more steamy than book 1. The novella before this was great to give you background on the history of Alex and Ted, but not required to read before this.
As with book 1, the mystery was intriguing and the characters are great! The narrator delivers an awesome performance again! I can't wait to read book 3! I wish there were more in the series!

Strangely captivating
This is the second book in the series I've read. Cons:
The story relies too much on having read the first book in the series. It was still a bit confusing more than half way into the book.
Pros: Interesting characters both primary and secondary. Very compelling dynamics between the characters. Captivating plot that makes the story one that is read in one sitting.

2/3 finished but had to stop listening
This book takes what was wonderful about the 1st book and basically stomps on it. The unnecessary over the top animosity between Caleb/Alex/Ted ruins what could have been a good story. Yet another scene with someone (Ted) screaming at Caleb about how much of a BA Alex is and how Caleb attempting to do the job he was hired to is the problem was it for me. These ridiculous over used confrontations over shadowed any actual plot in the story. Save your money and credit. I won't skip this abd try another book because I am sure it will be ruined with manufacturered over used toxic confrontations. There are other types of conflict in storylines but you won't find them here.

I love this series!
Another great novel my Elizabeth Hunter! The shifting, the love scenes, the drama all make up a great storyline. The characters are unforgettable. Can't wait to read the next one!!

An excellent murder mystery
with a side of romance, kidnapping, snake shifters, bird shifters, lizard shifter, wolf shifters, cougar shifters, and befuddled humans. This is actually a high quality well written mystery.

Interesting story with a new twist to becoming shifters
Nice lovers-to-haters-to-lovers with a shifter thrown in. Good plot and the story is nice, not too much angsts and strong women. The reason for the poor performance was the narrator ending in an up note on every sentence, sounding like everything was a hostage situation instead of walking down the street laughing — except the sexy scenes, where the woman’s dialog was delivered as if she was at the deli counter buying turkey.

coming back home but moving forward
Alex McCann is has come home to Cambio Springs to build a spa and to stay. Teadora Vasquez got her medical degree and came home a while ago to practice. They used to live together and love each other very much. Can Alex convince Tea to take a chance on him again? And can Alex protect Tea when she insists on helping him find out who murdered one of their own?
Ivary does an ok job of narration.
