Summary

I work for Lucifer. Only, it's not as cool and satanic as it sounds.

The truth is, I'm an admin assistant who applied for a job that sounded kind of interesting and ended up working for the Community of Species Government. I'm the only human in the office, and basically I ride herd on a team of rambunctious shifters and demons.

I also spend a lot of time avoiding Gideon Bailey, the demon I had a one-night stand with right before I took this job. He hates me, and I really want to avoid being murdered. But I've been offered a promotion that will mean working with him, so we're both going to have to get over it.

Plus, people are going missing. Pregnant people. And the word is that someone is dabbling in genetic experimentation. Putting a stop to that is more important than the sexual tension Gideon and I have been ignoring...isn't it?

Fantastic voice acting

The story writing is great, very possibly a new favourite author on here, but the voice acting makes it. So many stories are made or broken by the performance and this is one of the best I've heard so far. Clear character differentiation, and the variety of accents is fab, and all very well done. Highly recommend!

fun story but overblown narration

This is an entertaining story with lots of action, humour and general supernatural silliness. The problem is the narrator is so breathless and overdramatic that it feels like being shouted at the whole time, even with the volume & playback speed turned down. Every line is gasped and blurted and brayed, it's just too much.

Amazing narrator

Don't get me wrong, the book was fine, but the narrator just took it to a whole new level. Honestly with 1500 audio books in my library I think this was the best performance I've ever heard. A funny story with moments of minor tension, bit of a feel good romance with demons and stuff. I'm off to see if Joel Leslie has narrated anything else that might appeal.

Funny, easy listening

Brilliant narration, laughed out loud several times. I nearly didn't purchase after listening to the sample but it doesn't do the narrator justice. The different voices for all the characters are amazing.

Loved it

Brilliantly humorous and a well written paranormal book. My first book by Louisa Masters, and I will be searching for more now that I have found her.

On Facebook, someone compared Louisa's writing to Alice Winters, and I have to say she is def on par, if not better, well written, full of humour loved the world-building and detail. I would highly recommend it. The characters are so well written, good backstories, you feel like you know them personally, and I love that in a book.

I loved the narration by Joel Leslie, but he is one of my favourite narrators. I did speed up on Audible to 1.2, but this is usual for me.

Wrong Pairing imo

2.6〜2.8 stars. I am not a fan of Gideon and Sam as a couple, I felt much more chemistry between Sam and Aiden (I also liked him much better)... I just didn’t feel a connection between SxG, even their “chemistry” is mehh. It probably doesn’t help that the first time we were introduced to Gideon (and before I knew the main love interest was Gideon), I said to myself I hope this isn’t him...😑 🤦🏻‍♀️. I don’t know, I just feel more for Aiden than I ever did for Gideon 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Also, while I do really love Joe Leslie as a narrator, his steamy scenes nearly always make me cringe or try not to laugh because they are so over done, it’s like bad acting (primarily for the bottom if there is one).... Sam’s voice just felt so over done and over exaggerated and a little annoying. Additionally, the (French????) accent that he used for Gideon was quite difficult at times to understand... I’m also confused as to where it came from but 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I probably won’t listen to the next book because I’ve heard that the two MCs featured there are even more annoying 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Unique and funny!

This is such a unique take on the paranormal! And Joel Leslie’s narration from Sam’s perspective is absolutely fabulous, and so much fun. I really enjoyed the book when I read it initially, and I love the audio version even more. It will definitely be a listening favorite for me.

Fun Story Great Narration

This is a fun unique take on the paranormal. I loved the story and read it several times before the audio book was released. I was very excited to listen to this story as I enjoy light hearted fun listens while working. Joe Leslie did not let me down, he did a wonderful job bring the banter and fun I always read in the story to life. This will be a great new addition to my go to favorites when I want a comfort read to lift my mood.

Paranormal romcom at its best!

Is there a way to give more than 5 stars? If so, I would definitely use it for this book! It's action-packed, steamy and super funny. Joel Leslie knocked it out of the park with this one, drunken Sam is a thing of beauty!

Exciting, fast paced, sexy fun!

A world of creatures living in plain sight with the human population, complete with their own leaders and government agencies, is the basis of this series. This book introduces the world, and Is a bit mind-boggling at first to understand. However, once the blinders are off and you ‘see’ the reality of the complicated world that Masters has created, the story dives into an engaging, fast paced, action packed mystery/adventure! Packed with a cast of super fun and engaging characters that you can’t help but love, this story starts a series that you’re sure to enjoy! I would give Joel Leslie 10 stars for this book if I could- one of my favorite voice actors, his portrayal of a conversation between 6 or 7 characters, each with super distinct personalities and wildly divergent world accents, is off the charts excellent!

* Spoilers *

I believe this is the first book I've read/listened to by this author. I'm not exactly sure what to think of this book. I know for sure though that I had been wanting to read this book and the rest of the series for quite a while, but decided to wait until the audio book came out. The cover of this book and the summary also made it very appealing to read. On one hand, I knew what I was getting into, but on the other hand I didn't. I was a bit surprised that the first sexual scene happened in chapter 2, but I really shouldn't have since it was explained in the summary. My favorite scene throughout the whole book has to be during the lunch scene when Sam gets drunk. It was absolutely hilarious. There were a few scenes that I was either a bit uncomfortable with, cringed, or had second hand embarrassment for Sam. I also thought that this book was filled with an overload of information and some of it was a bit confusing or overwhelming. On one hand I appreciated all of the information, but on the other hand it was a lot to take in and some things I kind of forgot when it pertained to something later on. Like shifters needing someone else to open their phones, which I still don't understand why that happens. Relationship wise between Gideon and Sam, I honestly was as confused as Sam was about Gideon and his actions. I honestly would have liked some insight on to what he was thinking in his perspective. I also felt that due to the amount of information and focus on the plot ( along with how his character is to understand at times), there wasn't a whole lot of development between them on-screen on their relationship besides their lust and attraction for each other. I did find it cute how touchy feely they were with each other and how Sam ran straight to Gideon for protection when he suffered from paranoia.
I do feel a bit sad on what happened to Lily, but on the other hand I felt I wasn't really given the opportunity to really connect or have strong feelings for her (become attached to her character). I even suspected that she might be the mole in the group since she was the one assigned to watch over Sam and it was her account that was copied and hacked into. I was a bit surprised by all of the time jumps, which I'm not used to that. I also think that due to not reading MM for a while it was a bit uncomfortable reading/listening to those scenes (sexual scenes).
* Narration *
The narration was done quite nicely. I did kind of think that the narrator was reading a bit fast in the beginning, but I got used to it. I think I will continue with the series once the next audio book comes out.
