About this listen
Trust doesn’t come easily when you’ve been running for as long as I have, which is why moving in with a man I barely know is such a bad idea. Shepard Colson is all golden-boy charm and devastating good looks. But I know what it’s like to be taken in by easy smiles and the promise of forever—I have the scars to prove it.
Only the handsome contractor won’t stop coming by the bakery and prying little truths from my lips—those amber eyes of his seeing far too much. And when all the secrets come crashing down, he’s determined to keep me safe, even if it means moving into my rundown cabin to do it.
Now, Shep isn’t just rebuilding the walls of my home; he’s working his way into my heart. Suddenly, he’s everywhere: shirtless in my garden or in a towel coming out of my bathroom. And my resolve is no match.
Only it’s more than his golden looks. It’s him. The way he watches for my wounds but tells me I’m stronger than anyone he’s ever known. And I can’t help but fall.
But I should’ve known better than to think I could be happy—not when a ghost from my past still has me in his sights. And when he finds me, he’ll do anything to tear my life apart, even if it means ending it for good…

A beautiful story brought to life
This emotional and heartfelt tale has everything I love in a book – a smalltown setting that is anything but cosy, a gripping plot filled with mystery, intrigue, danger and suspense, amazing characters leading to a slow burn romance with all the feels not forgetting the strong family dynamics and it had me absorbed from the prologue as Thea struggled to build some semblance of a life. My heart couldn’t help but hurt for her, she had lost so much already but still lived in fear, terrified her stalker would find her again and destroy the little peace she’d found. Shepard Coulson could see the fear in her eyes even as he fell for her but knew he’d have to earn her trust before he could ever think of more. He had his own demons, feeling guilty after the near loss of a woman he considered his sister in the first book made him even more determined to protect Thea. Their relationship development was touching as he slowly but surely inched his way through her defences and gave her the courage to stay and fight when her past caught up with her again before reaching to dramatic conclusion that once again left me in shock with the identity of the villain.
Catherine Cowles’ style of writing and how she can balance out the suspense and intrigue without skimping on all the feels and emotions in her storytelling is fabulous. Her words suck you in and have you routing for the hero and heroine to find their happily ever after. The suspense element of Delicate Escape, the second book in the Sparrow Falls series was first class, building throughout the book. if you’re a fan of the romantic suspense genre then this is one author I can’t recommend highly enough.
This author also makes it easy for narrators to bring her words to life and when it’s two talented performers like Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton, then listeners know they are in for a treat. Erin was perfectly cast as the damaged Thea. Every emotion was clear in her performance, from Thea’s terror in the beginning to hope as she began to believe she might have a future in Sparrow Falls while Teddy was spot on as the protective and patient Shep. A well deserved five stars for both artists.

Beautiful, emotional and heart-stopping!
Such an amazing story! Delicate Escape is the second standalone book in the Sparrow Falls series.
Thea is hiding some big secrets that she is too afraid to share with anyone. Shep has built so many walls around his own heart that are kept sturdy with guilt. But those walls are destined to crumble when he has to open up to a women who needs honesty to show her that she can trust again.
“We all carry with us the weight of our experiences. The hard things change us. Sometimes, they scar us.”
What a beautiful, emotional story with heart-stopping suspense and so much swoon!!
I listened to most of this story on audiobook. I love the narrators! They enhanced an already awesome experience!

This series is everything!
I’d listen to absolutely anything Erin Mallon narrates but thrown together with Teddy Hamilton and a Catherine Cowles story??? What more could you ask for?? This was absolute perfection, I will never stop recommending these books whether it’s physical, ebook or audio!

Erin and Teddy are perfection as Thea and Shep
I have listened to the audiobook narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon multiple times now, and I can NOT get enough of these two characters!
Thea and Shep’s story was beautifully handled and well written. Of course, I didn’t expect anything else from Catherine Cowles. Erin and Teddy did a wonderful job of bringing these two characters to life for the audiobook.
Now, if you have read/listened to any of Catherine’s books before, you know there will be some suspense thrown into the mix as well. And man, I did not see that twist coming.
It is no surprise this is my new favourite read, as Catherine’s books always tend to be for me. I am eagerly waiting the next book in the series.
Well done, Catherine!

Sequel success
OMG This guy is just too adorable. I don't think their has been a male character I have loved this much in ages. in the midst of an intense suspense I might add he really did sell this. Love the found family in this story. Also warning for abuse mental and physical.

I’m loving this series
Summary
Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
Spicy rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3/5
Fluff rating: 💖💖 2/5
I wholeheartedly believe that Cowles’ Sparrow Falls series is her best series yet! It’s so rare that after giving the first in a series 5⭐️ that I continue to give the next books 5⭐️ too but I couldn’t give delicate escape any less if I wanted to (which I don’t). I really loved this as much, if not more so that book 1.
She writes small town suspense better than any I’ve read before and keeps you guessing the whole way through. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out… U-Turn, flip, uno reverse it’s something else. It’s always such a great addition to the romance plot. The tension throughout had me devouring this book in less than 24 hours.
I adored both Thea and Shep and how good they were for each other. There’s definitely a theme emerging to this series of mutual healing ❤️🩹 of the FMC and the MMC. These two were just perfect for each other, Shep with his hero/ saviour complex and how Thea helped him to learn to let the uncontrollable go and prioritise himself more. And Thea who’s guarded, defensive and lonely after dealing with one hell of a trauma and Shep getting her to trust again and open herself up to more after she’s restarted her life. Also Thea is a lover of spicy books as an escape mechanism. Who can’t relate to that?! 😏
One of my fave things about this book and series is the blended found/chosen family of the Colson’s. It’s truly perfect, they are all such beautifully written characters with such believable interactions and connections with one another. Lolli in particular is the grandma we all need in our lives and I am begging for a Lolli novella at some point. The woman is hilarious and I can’t get enough of her antics.
One of my top reads of the year right here!

The way this author writes is an experience to say the least.
I love the character building and the way the suspense is written into the book. You could never guess where the book is going until it got there!

Another Catherine Masterpiece!!
“Your heart is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever experienced. Beautiful because it’s been broken. Those cracks let it become something else entirely. Stronger. Wiser. The fiercest defender of anyone who needs it. And the gentlest confidante for anyone who needs understanding. You see it all. And you don’t look away. You come alongside without judgment, and you simply love. You can’t ask me to walk away from that after I’ve experienced it. It would be like living in the sun, only to exist entirely in darkness.”
When I tell you Delicate Escape was simply sublime. A masterpiece. When it comes to romantic suspense, Catherine Cowles is a favorite. She does her thang and so spectacularly well.
From the first moment Shep met Thea, the sparks flew and he was a goner. I just knew their story would be something beautiful.
The way they each brought something out of each other that they thought they had lost. The trust, the bravery, the courage, the strength, the healing, the confidence. The way they just…saw each other. My goodness, it was a thing of beauty.
Golden retriever recognizes golden retriever and Shepard Colson may just be one of my favorites. This man was so full of compassion, understanding, empathy, kindness, love and with purest of hearts. There was nothing you couldn’t ask of him. He had a protective and a little naughty side to him too that had me drooling.
Thea’s heart was closed and she had zero intentions of changing that. Her closed off ness was understandable and my heart went out to her. At the same time, I ached for her to have a life of true contentment, freedom and peace that she deserved. I loved seeing her feeling safe enough to break out of her shell and fully embrace all that life and love had to offer her. It was a truly wonderful thing to witness.
I was so confident with Delicate Escape that I knew who the who was but Catherine once again proved me wrong. Even after all these years of reading her, I literally still can’t get it right! She leaves me on edge and guessing until almost the very end. Heart in my throat with the intensity of the suspense.
Thee audio. Y’all. 🤌🏾💋
I swear it’s like Catherine writes her characters specifically for the narrators because the way they embody them seamlessly just leaves me in awe. Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon were a dream brought to life in their performance.

Incredible Story & Narration🎧Riveting & Heartfelt
Catherine Cowles pens another winning novel set in her “Sparrow Falls”, a romantic suspense that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This second book of the series is Shep and Thea’s story and wow, what a story it is, starting with her backstory and how she wound up in Sparrow Falls. My heart went out to her in such a big way, and to Shep as well, after hearing his backstory and the reasons for his insecurities, which are just as moving. Thea was on the run from something terrible and Sparrow Falls was the perfect spot to stay off the grid, though she fears that someone will eventually recognize her and reveal who she is and even worse, bring the person she is running from back to her. When she discovers a water leak in her old house, a house she did not allow anyone into because it was her safe zone and she had issues with trust. Thinking she could fix it herself, but she was in way over her head and her friend suggested she have Shepard look at it, but she was hesitant. Shep knew she was hiding something and sensed that she was fearful, so he handled her with care, in the most admirable way. There was an undeniable chemistry between these two, and it was great to watch them get to know each other and watch Thea let down the walls she built around her heart. And in Cowles fashion, the writing, plot and world building are phenomenal, as are the character growth and development. There is never a dull moment in the book and the story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, mystery, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and a steamy romance. I love how she works the mystery and suspense plot, keeps you thinking and then just when you think you figured it out, wham, you learn how off the mark you were and you can say you never saw that coming, well done, very well done! Catherine Cowles, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, humanizing them, and giving each a voice that was fitting. Erin Mallon nailed it as Thea, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her vulnerable side to her strength and determination, with Hamilton being just as amazing in his role as Shepard, swoon worthy, caring and protective. Both were equally fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling each one. These two made a great team, their voices and talent complemented each other and their performance elevated this already wonderful story to another level. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another fabulous listen.
