Summary

A spy determined to protect her secrets. A Highlander hell-bent on the truth. All’s fair in their game of deception.

When an English spy working for Robert the Bruce falls inexplicably silent, Will Sinclair is sent to determine if she needs protection. But if he discovers her allegiances have turned...the Scottish cause must come first. Yet instead of answers, he finds a beautiful but mysterious woman who refuses to explain herself. Will has been betrayed before - which cost him an eye - so the last thing he’ll tolerate is a traitor. Can he uncover the truth before he loses his head - or his heart?

In the four years Eleanor de Monteney has worked as a spy in the English court, never have matters been more delicate - or dangerous. The last thing she needs is a rough-edged Highlander jeopardizing all her carefully constructed plans. Worse yet, in order to get close enough to assess her loyalties, he claims to be her fiancé. To protect her secrets, Eleanor must keep Will at arm’s length, but the smoldering desire between them threatens to ignite into an all-consuming blaze. With the fate of two nations hanging in the balance, will her deception cost them everything?

This full-length Scottish historical romance is part of the Highland Bodyguards Series, but also can be enjoyed as a standalone novel. Get your copy today!

oh wow

Loved every minute of it. I just couldn't stop listening. The story was as good as all the others of the Bodyguard series. It seems like it was the last one of this series, but I really hope it isn't. The ending was beautiful and thank you Emma Prince for the authors note, it was like a short story in itself about Queen Isabella. I love it when you explain all the true history.
The only negative comment I have is that Elizabeth, Robert the Bruce's wife was hardly mentioned in these stories. I was hoping that at the end she would have been there when the treaty was announced. Robert the Bruce loved Elizabeth veeery much so im surprised there wasn't a story about them. Tim Campbell's narrating is fantastic so with Emma's stories and Tim's narrating the combination is perfect. This is the second time listening to this series and I loved it just as much as the first time and will probably listen to it again next year.

Another Delightful Story from Emma Prince

The historic background of medieval England was smoothly inserted, and mostly factual. But add to that history a love story and it's sure to please. Will and Eleanor were made for each other. At times I wanted to kick Will in the shins for being so dense about his feelings for Eleanor, but there were so many satisfying moments when their relationship deepened and became a real love story. Thank you Emma for a great chapter in the Bodyguard series and thank you Tim for a great narration.

Excellent conclusion!

Excellent series with an excellent conclusion. I love how each story, including this final story, met with and entangled with real historical people, places and events.

When your heart knows the truth, it's not lost

Since losing his vision in one eye, Will truly does not trust easily or forgive. He's been managing his keep since his father passed and still believes he's less of a warrior since his accident. When the Bruce calls upon him to locate and determine a spy's loyalty, Will is reluctant as memories flood his mind when he trusted openly altered his life completely.

Eleanor has been working for Scotland's freedom for years. She's seen the cruelty of the English and devoted her life to Scotland. She's been silent as her plans are finally falling into place until Will rides into her life claiming to be her fiancée.

Their attraction to each other is overwhelming but their sharp barbs and intense conversations are even better. LOVE the story! The audible puts life into the story as if you were with Will and Eleanor in their adventure. Highly recommend the audible. Emma Prince's author's note is a delightful surprise in all her books. Fantastic!

Next to the least favorite

I liked the series but this story got a bit tiring with Eleanor constantly yapping about not telling Will what was going on as a way to protect him. Really? He is a Highlander warrior...he can't protect himself? I think Will deserved better from her. There could have been conflict without her just constantly stripping him of the chance to help. Also Will should have given up the pity party about his eye. got old.

Overall though a GREAT SERIES and a terrific ending. So nice to see everyone...even the Sinclairs from the brothers series...together.
