Summary

Francesca Eve thought that she was prepared for anything, at the events that she caters for, in her pretty little Shropshire village.

Missing canapes? No problem. Burnt brownies? A piece of cake....But a dead body? Now that’s a recipe for disaster.

Francesca is nervous about catering her first-ever murder mystery party - but it’s clear from the clink of champagne flutes and piles of empty plates that the evening is a roaring success. The guests look spectacular in their disguises, whispering and giggling, as they try to identify who killed the beautiful, young Becky. But days later, the game takes a sinister turn, when Becky is found poisoned, and all the signs point to the culprit being a party guest.

From the woman having an affair, to the guest hiding her true identity, everyone had a secret - and it turns out that Becky knew them all. As Fran finds herself center-stage in a real-life murder mystery, the finger of suspicion points at each guest in turn. And Fran starts to wonder, were any of these secrets dangerous enough to kill for?

Then, the body of a second guest is found, and it becomes clear a deranged killer is going off-script. It seems anyone who was involved in the game that night is in their sights, even Fran. Can she unmask the murderer before the final curtain falls?

A cozy mystery packed with twists. If you love Clare Chase, M.C. Beaton, and The Thursday Murder Club, you’ll absolutely adore this whodunnit.

Definitely a cozy murder mystery

This book has all the expected ingredients. If you're looking for good characters, a nice narration, a good plot line that develops but doesn't overwhelm, then this is the book for you.

An absolute joy to listen to!

This is a book that was on my recommendations... Oh what an absolute treat. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to hear more of this wonderful series. The banter between Adam and Fran are fantastic and I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud at their conversations. Emma Davies is a great writer, her characters are engaging and interesting. Mira Dovreni is brilliant to listen to she has a great voice, the voices she used pretty much sounded the same, but to be fair, for me it wasn't an issue, the story and characters were so good I binged this in two days. There is a scene that is so funny I replayed it several times as it was so funny. Adam is such an endearing guy, he is so likable and funny. Fran is also a very decent and likable character. This is a new favourite series, I have already bought the next book, which is out tomorrow, which is fantastic. I would highly recommend this book series to anyone who loves a good cozy murder mystery!

Put reality aside and cope with the narration

I listened to the whole book because I'd used a Credit and hate giving up on a book. This was a far-fetched storyline and the narrator spoke in a staccato, overly emphasised way for the main character.
I've enjoyed the Merryn Allingham books and thought this would be similar, but unfortunately it wasn't for me.
