Summary

A gripping cosy mystery set in Durham, for fans of Faith Martin and Betty Rowlands.

When librarian and budding Private Investigator Kitt Hartley visits her ex-assistant Grace Edwards in Durham, she soon learns of an unsolved murder.

A year ago, Jodie Perkins, a Mechanics student, disappeared after her student-radio broadcast was cut short with a deafening scream. The police suspect Jodie was murdered although her body was never found.

Keen to be on the front line of one of Kitt's investigations, Grace convinces Kit to use her recent private investigator training to solve the mystery. Can Kitt and Grace uncover the truth?

Good but nowhere near previous books

Unfortunately the narrator changed. I absolutely loved the narration on the previous books, it really made it for me. But unfortunately lt changed and this gives the book a different feel. I also felt the narration to not be as engaging and entertaining to listen to.

Bring back previous narrator

Book content was great and as expected. Narration was awful. Rushed and sounded as though she was reading the book to a group of excited school children rather than bringing the characters to life as previous narrator did. This is potentially a death knell to the series. Had I listened to this first, I would have returned it before the 5th chapter and not given the author another chance.

Disappointed

I was looking forward to the new book but the change in narrator has spoiled the whole experience for me. I found her to be a bit dreary and uninspiring

Great book but wrong performer

I really enjoy Helen Cox’s books and would have enjoyed the performance if I had not previously heard them read by Eilidh Beaton. Please bring her back as the reader on this series. Her death of characterisation is enthralling and lifts already good characters to new heights. I could not have chosen a better reader to voice Cox’s books than Beaton.

Change of narrator took away from the story

I kept listening because I want to know what happened to the characters but I’m not keen on the change of narrator. It has changed the characters beyond recognition- especially kitt. It’s not to take away from the narrator but I really hope they go back to Eilidh Beaton for the next book as she made the characters believable and lovable

Poor narration spoiled slight story

Didn't finish it. Waste of a credit. Story was passable but narration very poor. Previous narrator much more engaging & gave each character a distinctive voice. I won't listen to any more of this series if narrator is the same.

Awful narration

Low score for poor narration. Sounds like narrator hates public speaking but is being made to read out her English essay in front of her class. Uncomfortable hesitation and pauses in random places. Completely spoils whole book as can’t get swept up in story. Is a shame as enjoyed the first two books greatly but won’t be listening to anymore if same narrator.

Last one in series I will listen to!

Feels like it’s a different series to first few stories- if I wanted a “how to carry out a crime” I would have gone for a better book than just being told about it again and again!!
Narrator was so boring that I had to keep rewinding as I’d fallen asleep but I’m not blaming her as she had very little to work with.
Story line could been so much better if more of the old characters were in it.
I’m so disappointed and it’s such a shame

Change of narrator

Couldn't enjoy this book due to the change in narrator. The characters and pace were completely spoilt. What a shame.
