Summary
A gritty urban legal thriller you don’t want to miss! Perfect for fans of John Grisham, Robert Bailey, Michael Connelly and Robert Dugoni.
Has Charles picked the wrong side…?
London, 1969: The Kray twins, the nemeses of Charles Holborne, barrister, are finally convicted of multiple murders and sent away for the longest prison terms ever imposed by a British court. But with London in the grip of a housing crisis and unscrupulous landlords hiking rents, there are new ruthless enforcers terrorizing destitute East Enders. When a tenant dies during a violent altercation with bailiffs, Charles is instructed to represent the businessmen charged with conspiracy to murder.
There is motive, an eyewitness, and a confession–seemingly an open and shut case. But Charles suspects his clients are pawns in a much more dangerous game being played by shadowy Establishment figures. But are his instincts wrong this time? Is he being manipulated into defending a guilty man? And as dark secrets are revealed, will he have to choose between moral integrity and professional success?
DEATH, ADJOURNED is the ninth crime novel in an exciting historical series, the Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers—gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London.
Critic reviews

"A hugely entertaining and well-constructed legal thriller with the unmistakable ring of authenticity." —David Beckler, author of the Antonia Conti series.

Brilliantly written Web of Intrigue
Another fantastic read from Simon Michael. A courtroom thriller set in the late 1960's cleverly interwoven with stories based on real characters and events that give the whole book an aura of truth. The entire series is pure genius, fiction writing at it's best, and highly recommended. The narrator could not be faulted, across the series he has proved to be adept at many regional accents and only enhances the books with his performance.

Maturing Charles is still as fascinating
So looked forward to this to see how Charles' story would develop now the Krays are in prison, and was not disappointed. I love the way Charles' personal and working lives intertwine, and the ongoing saga of Millie and Harry is both poignant and entertaining. Charles is still fighting injustice, prejudice and corruption and his undoubted legal sharpness shines through. I do hope that this isn't the end of the series! My only criticism - where was Sean? We had a brief glimpse of Irena but not enough of the lovely Irish 'tec'. Superbly narrated by Colin Mace - 10 stars wouldn't be exaggerating for his reading. Thank you Simon for a wonderful character and storyline in this series.

Diamond Book
I download and listen to a lot of crime fiction (I have 890 Audible books). Take it from me this is a masterful book. like all in the series is brilliantly read. And the story has wonderful twists and turns. Just as you think all is lost Charlie comes up with the goods. But the utter genius is how he does it! Do yourself a favour and download this absolut Diamond book!

A brilliant finale!
This novel is a worthy successor to Michael's earlier novels in the series. Wonderful writing and perfect narration.

Historical, legal thriller, set in London
I adore these books. The characters bounce off the page and jump into your mind and become real people, so real you can practically smell them. Not only is there accuracy in the legal aspects of the books but the social commentary is an absolute delight. There are insights into living and working in the 60’s and 70’s that are much more entertaining and probably just as useful as many research papers.
Enjoy!

Another fascinating novel by Simon Michael
I love this entire series and had this on pre-order. The format is comfortingly familiar by now; a seemingly impossible problem to overcome, lots of brilliant historic details, and an in depth and well written court scene.
If you’ve reached this far in the series, you’ll love this one too. It doesn’t have the same pull as the Kray books for me but I still enjoyed it regardless.
Also - the narration is flawless as ever.
Enjoy!

Brilliantly written
I am a huge fan of the author. I am inclined to say that this is the best one yet. I love the characterisation and the atmospheric creation of life in Criminal Courts in the 60s. I urge you to read it. It’s a wonderful book

The one
Brilliant as usual this author never disappoints. I was half way through listening to an another book when this one came available and I couldn’t wait so I started listening to this one straight away. He captures the essence of the time period and the attitudes, the history and events. Highly recommended and to any starting this series l envy you guys.
