About this listen

When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything—or anyone—that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. One night when she’s called to a grisly crime scene, Scarlett is spied by the all-too-human LAPD cop Jesse Cruz, who strikes up a deal with her: he’ll keep quiet about the supernatural underworld if she helps him crack the case. She agrees, but the city’s chief vampire, Dash, starts to suspect Scarlett is behind the murders and will reveal all she knows of his shadowy empire. Now it’ll take more than Scarlett’s unique abilities to clear her name, keep the underworld underground, and track down the real killer.

Enjoyable urban fantasy story

Well written. Characters have some depth - not 2 dimensional and 'wooden'. Dialogue and interaction between characters engaging and believable. I would class it more as urban fantasy than paranormal romance. The focus is mostly on the action and any romance is subtle. No graphic 'love' scenes'! I wasn't sure if I liked the female lead character for the first half of the book. However later on you begin to see why she's so jaded and I can see how the character has been given room to develop emotionally over the coming books. Overall the narrator did a reasonable job but her tendency to sound a bit whiny" at times was may be why I had difficulty 'warming up' to the female lead. Overall engaging and enjoyable but not one of my absolute favourites in this genre - yet - but I'm willing to give the next book a go!

Read Scarlett Bernard first then Boundary Magic after

Book 1 in Scarlett Bernard series by Melissa F Olson
I did really enjoy the story but took forever to get through because I made the mistake of reading Boundary Magic series first so already knew things that has ruined this book for me.
I absolutely loved Boundary Magic series and I think I like Lex more then Scarlett but hoping spices up with stuffi don't know happens.
DEFINITELY READ THIS SERIES FIRST IF WANTING TO READ BOTH THEN BOUNDARY MAGIC SERIES

There is plenty of interesting ideas and topics covered by the characters. Lots of action, drama, sleuthing to keep the reader entertained.

Audio review only

The narrator has a really unpleasant voice. Could not continue listening to it anymore.
