Best Ventris book so far

Not only was the story better but the narrator had improved and this was very good, I like the Ventris books but they can be a bit too cliched, bringing in Daemons and Heretic Astartes took the emphasis off uriel and made the book a lot more interesting

Read this book as a teen years ago and it was great then now it’s even better loved the story can’t wait for next one.

Excellent

This was my favourite of the first three Uriel Ventris books , would recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark 40k audiobooks, and who enjoys renegade space marines. It is a unique story with great characters, particularly the main villain. I was never particularly interested in the Ultramarine books because I thought they would be bland, generic heroes, which I thought the first two books were a little bit, but this was throughly enjoyable.

Grimdark premise weighed down by flat characters

The great part about this book is the awful things the traitors are up to. But I struggle to recommend it because our protagonists are hard to engage with, feeling more like propaganda caricatures than people. Not to say they don't have some great character moments but they lack a bit of groundedness

amazing good ol' 40k Ventris action .

u have to love Ventris .not so boy scout ultramarine . and the renegades forever loyal in there own ways. a welcome EDT to my back lib collection

Poor voices

Why does Pasanius sound like hobbit? This is the first audiobook I’ve not finished because of the poor quality of voices. I’ll read the hard copy to fully enjoy

Interesting gem of idea let down by poor writing..

I listened to this story based on a You Tube review (Thank you Leutin09!) and found it to be a tedious slog. The dialogue was abysmal; did the author read his material to sound it out? I don't think so. it had interesting gems, but thinly scattered in a muddled story. The main characters were lifeless, characatures of what perfect Space Marines should aspire to, and the motivational speeches were cringeworthy. In fact, the more I think about the story arc, the more faults I uncover. Best stop there then otherwise its going to be a 1-star book. Graham McNeil, what were you thinking? You're far better than this drivel...

Cheesy and unoriginal

Not a fan of using famous lines that people often quote from films such as "not like this" and verious dialogue derived from star wars.

ADR issues

Pretty much the only thing that lets this recording down, but down hard for me is that there are a number of instances where a post recording edit has been made and patched in from an echoing other sound recording. This basically took me out of the story as I spent a few seconds thinking “that sounds weird?” And it made me miss some of what was said and I had to skip back and listen again. Quite disruptive :(

Terrible writing worse narration

This series is so poor it should be seen as an embarrassment for the whole Warhammer franchise. After slogging through the previous two books, I could not get past the first few chapters of this travesty. Perhaps a competent narrator could have added something to save the turgid writing but instead his over acting made this unbearable. Also the production and sound quality just does not seem up to the usual standard. Avoid.
