Summary

Killashandra Ree has spent ten grueling years in musical training, anticipating interstellar celebrity as a vocal soloist. She is young, beautiful—and still without prospects. After learning that a flaw in her voice will prevent her from singing lead, she hears of the mysterious Heptite Guild on the planet Ballybran, where the fabled Black Crystal is found. Mining this strange form of crystal is a dangerous occupation but to Killa, the risks are acceptable. Remarkably, her adaptation to crystal mining is unusually rapid and easy and Killashandra advances quickly. The problem is—few people who land on Ballybran ever leave.

Very disappointed as it’s not an unabridged version

I love this book, but this is a disappointment. I don’t think the narrator is very good and the book is not the full version

Sad it was abridged.

I would not have bought this if I had realised it was abridged. So many good bits of the book were missing, so much so that the characters were thin and unconvincing. Can't imagine why Anne McCaffrey allowed this to be published. Sound quality not good.

One of my favourite series

I love this story despite it being abridged. The narrator speaks very quickly and this detracts from the flow. Or maybe its the abridgement that interrupts it. I'm happy enough but glad I didn't pay full price. I move on to the second in the trilogy hoping the story will overcome the issues. This one managed it, just....

Great book, a great intro into the world

Great book but I’d definitely see it as part 1 and you should read the other 2 to really get the full joy of the series

Poor sound quality

Copy muffled poor sound quality. Otherwise a great listen. I would of preferred a unabridged version instead of a abridged one.

muffled audio

Love Anne McCartney and have read the book in the past. Just find the audio quality really muffly compared to other downloads.

Enjoyable

The audio was quite fast and had to slow it down, but apart from that a very enjoyable listen
