Summary

Old enough to be used

Young enough to be broken

Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength.

Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped.

But that was only the beginning for Sassinak. Now she’s a Fleet Captain with a pirate-chasing ship of her own, and only one regret in her life: not enough pirates.

Very dull

I've loved Anne McCaffrey since my teens but never got around to this set of books. I'm sorry to say that I won't be finishing this one or moving on to sequals.

It sounded like a good start to a story but it's just been so dull, more time is spent on the main character being proud of her decor than actually doing anything. It briefly touches on racism but it's nothing of any depth; it just seems like very little happens, and when it does it seems like nothing important.

Narration is ok.

Brilliant storytelling

This is the most imaginative world building that I have come across.
Sassinak is a brilliant character who drags you into her story and doesn't let go through all the danger and mystery.
Highly recommended.
