Summary
Becoming a nanny was not part of my plan, but when tragedy strikes, I need a new beginning.
I've given up on the idea of love, so living with a stranger shouldn't be a problem. My past broke me beyond repair, and I’ve learned to accept that. What I’m not prepared for is my new boss to be the unbearably sexy single dad Dexter Cross. He exudes a confidence I’ve never known and brings out a sass I didn’t know I had.
Teasing him comes naturally, but the more time I spend with him and his children, the harder I fear it will be to leave. And I must leave.
I promised him one year, but all too quickly Dex sets his eyes and heart on me. He thinks I can choose them and stay, but he doesn’t understand my kind of damaged. My scars run deep, but apparently so does his determination.
With the help of his chosen family, he sets out to make me his, one grand gesture at a time.
But the question remains: Am I strong enough to let go of my past? Or are some hearts too broken to heal, even for Dexter Cross?

Great story!
Lanie and Dex’s story was an emotional, suspenseful journey and they helped each other heal from their pasts. I loved the way Lanie was protective of Dex’s kids and how he was patient and gentle with her because of her past. I enjoyed their flirty banter and all the grand gestures he did to gain her trust. The narration from Tim Paige and Sophie Daniels was great and I’m looking forward to hearing more from them in the rest of this series.

This one has staying power
How does an author create an instafan? With a debut novel like Cross My Heart. Lanie & Dex are both trying to recover from trauma created by circumstances beyond their control. Could they be the key to each other's HEA? Well, when you add in some nosy friends & framily, they just might be. Avery creates a character-rich story that will make you laugh, smile, and even tear up a bit. Lanie lays the groundwork for a pack of strong, talented, supportive women, while Dex proves that a little Prince Charming and a great group text can go a long way toward building forever.
The narrators were absolutely perfect for Dex and Lanie. Their inflection and cadence pulled the personality of the characters from the text and brought them to life. I’ve read this book several times, but listening to the audiobook brought a completely new level to the experience.

Use of “F” word way over the top
When anyone uses the F word this much, it totally ruins a story. It’s abrasive to anyone with a conscience. I couldn’t finish listening to the book.

Amazing story.
This book is a breath of fresh air. The story is different, interesting, funny with a little bit of a twist. A single dad with 3 small children, a group of loyal and supportive friends and extended family members. Amazing story.

My favorite Book Ever.
This is my 3rd time reading this book, only this time was way more better with the audiobook. Dexter Cross is my Prince Charming. Dex is an amazing man, with a beautiful family, by blood and by choice. Lanes is broken yes, but as Tate says, Dex is a fixer and definitely can fixer for them. The boys, the Westbrooks are so hilarious hahaha. Trevor, Preston and Loki are the best friends/brother a man can have. And Jules is freaking amazing. This is still my favorite book EVER!!! Sophie and Tim did an amazing performance in the audiobook. Can’t wait for the rest of the serie in audible.

A for sure must read!
So I started off reading the book and switched to the audio. Tim Paige’s voice didn’t fit for me at first, but as the story went on I was able to really visualize him. I loved the storyline. A lot of stories I read like this I get aggravated with. The female always seems so stupid or immature. Avery Maxwell envisioned a strong heroine who didn’t know the power of her own strength or the strength of family and love. I didn’t get that annoyed feeling of a heroine being immature, but a heroine really needing to dig deep and find that hidden strength. There were parts I found myself tearing up and parts I was laughing hysterically. The boys reminded me a lot of my brothers and their friends and the goofiness they come with. It was very realistic and easy to visualize. This was a great book and great start for a series. I only wish the rest of the series was on audio, but oh well, it won’t stop me from reading!
