Summary

From New York Times best-selling author, Penelope Douglas, comes a new stand-alone!

Three of them, one of her, and a remote cabin in the woods. Let the hot winter nights ensue....

Tiernan de Haas doesn’t care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance. Shipped off to boarding schools from an early age, it was still impossible to escape the loneliness and carve out a life of her own. The shadow of her parents’ fame followed her everywhere.

And when they suddenly pass away, she knows she should be devastated. But has anything really changed? She’s always been alone, hasn’t she?

Jake Van der Berg, her father’s stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of 18. Sent to live with him and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb, in the mountains of Colorado, Tiernan soon learns that these men now have a say in what she chooses to care and not care about anymore.

As the three of them take her under their wing, teach her to work and survive in the remote woods far away from the rest of the world, she slowly finds her place among them.

And as a part of them.

She also realizes that lines blur and rules become easy to break when no one else is watching.

One of them has her.

The other one wants her.

But he....

He’s going to keep her.

Only made it to chapter 6.

What utter tripe. The poorest imitation of a Mills & Boon. Tedious, almost non existent storyline, bland characters.
Life’s too short for this kind of non literature. I’m disappointed with Audible’s write up. Made it sound far more interesting than it is and wasted my money.

Could not put this down

I like to listen to audible while walking the dog... But I could not stop listening. This story had it all. Taboo, emotion, a story, suspense. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Male wish fulfilment, could not finish

The first “steamy” scene unacceptably depicted a woman saying “no” to a man she didn’t know forcing himself on her but she was thinking “yes” and wanting him to carry on. Not good. Didn’t get any further. Avoid.

wow it has it all 👍👏👏👏

Controversial, taboo , shock factor, .. etc etc If I had listened to the negative and quite judgemental reviews of this book then I wouldn't have read it , but trust me it's very much worth the read, we all know Penelope writes near the knuckle subjects but she is always carefull to make sure she doesn't make her books become tackless and disrespectful like many others out there and too be honest we are talking about a step Uncle and his sons and like I mentioned it's a controversial topic so if you want Snow white n the 7 dwarfs ....lol then don't read this book, I personally loved the book it's about loneliness, abandonment, mental issues, sex, it hits on alot of personall issues that they are all suffering with and that Tiernan has a huge Impact on their lives and visa versa . Also there is jealous, rivalry with tension amongst the outsiders shall we say so it's got everything so if you still want to read it good for you you won't be disappointed but keep an open mind 😉 ....well done Penelope another great book 💥💥💥

Obsessed with sex

Absolute rubbish and gratuitous sex. Such a desirable self absorbed young girl amongst supposedly sex driven men.

Soppy teenage drama book

I got 6 hours in and could not take no more,a lot of Corny sex sense bits that make me cringe, I think with this book you either love it or hate it and I am the latter, it had potential of being a very good book but just too corny

I just learned I do not vibe with taboo

I really recommend this book to people that are aware of their preferences, and learn all trigger warnings. Among which are age gap, semi-incest, sa etc.
It is not my peace of bread, but still. I think story was good. I finished it and except parts that made me uncomfortable it was enjoyable read.

steamy but listen to a sample 1st...

for me I found the narration ruined it. pretty awful o.t.t. breathy female which was just very repetitive in tone and bizarrely aggressive male voices.
very steamy in parts, not for the faint hearted and the male behaviour was quite ridiculous.

😒 creepy underage vibes/horrible narration

You have to be kidding me. I couldn’t even get past the first few chapters. I’m into spice but not when it’s super weird. UNDERAGE female with a man in his 40s who’s possessive and creepy with her… I can already see where this is going. Another encounter that’s almost a r*pe scene. Main character said if it went farther it would be her fault which is gross when she practically begged him to stop. This book weirds me out. Also, the narrators need to be fired for that atrocious performance. Literally the most monotoned woman ever and then the male narrator does what I *think* is an Indian accent that is laughable and to make it worse it sounds Scottish halfway through? Why does this book have so many good ratings?? Am I the crazy one?

I LOVE Penelope Douglas!

I just love Penelope’s books. Her stories always push the limits and help me remember how real life and emotions impact everything we choose. The depth of her character development is outstanding and always keeps me wanting more. If I had the time to read this one, I would have. The narrators, especially the males were not great. The narrator chosen for Jake sounded like he was commentating a race or fast paced competition. It was overkill and ruined Jake’s character for me.

I have NEVER written a book review until now. I wish I could erase my memory to read it over for the first time again.

No, just no!

I like dark nasty erotica, but this is just gross. An old uncle figure lusting after his 17 year old niece? gross. Couldn't get through it once I figured out what was happening. And the narrator, oh lord. The female was like a monotone robot. The male waaaaaay over the top dramatic. Just bad all the way around.

Obsessed!

I stayed up all night listening to it, that’s how good it was. Narration starts off a bit slow/monotone. But I hardly noticed it after a while. This will definitely be a book that I listen to again. 100% worth the credit.

Taboo AF, but I couldn’t put it down!

I’ve listened to over 145 books in the past year, and this is my very first written review. I absolutely had to because I COULD NOT put this book down. It has the perfect mix of interesting storyline, complicated characters, lots and lots of sexy smut but also a love story.
Now, I will say... the whole step-uncle, step-cousin romance is dicey. You’ll either not be bothered by it or you will. There are a couple cringe worthy moments when she calls him “uncle Jake” while in the throws, but it doesn’t come close to ruining the book. I listened and read this one bc it’s on kindle unlimited. I like to have the option to switch back and forth. The only narrator I found annoying was Jake. The rest were great. Great character development and an ending perfectly wrapped up in a bow. READ THIS BOOK!!!

Straight up this is TOXIC gaslighting nonsense

If you're into books where the asshole gets away with everything because he's broken and damaged with mommy issues this book is for you, I rolled my eyes more times than I care to say this book has moments where you are like ok this is fun but then drops into some unbelievably toxic abusive behavior disguised as a confused bad boy in love so give him a break he only treats you like garbage because he doesn't know better narrative and its drives me crazy. If that's your Jam then give it a read but if you're over toxic masculinity and the bad boy narrative give this a pass.. also the narration is brutal too as an added bonus

Crazy good

This one was not my typical read. It was much darker and the content was a bit more taboo for me. But I loved it! I ended up getting the actual book and reading instead of listening to the audiobook. The narration was not great. I found that I enjoyed the story so much more without the narrators. The female they use was so monotone that it was hard to listen beyond that. But the story is so great… Steamy But with so much heart. Highly recommend reading the book

Wasn’t so bad

If u r going I’m thinking it’s so taboo it’s not. It’s a good romance / erotica with a little extra bit don’t worry doesn’t go too far
