Summary

From New York Times best-selling author, Penelope Douglas, comes a new stand-alone!

Three of them, one of her, and a remote cabin in the woods. Let the hot winter nights ensue....

Tiernan de Haas doesn’t care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance. Shipped off to boarding schools from an early age, it was still impossible to escape the loneliness and carve out a life of her own. The shadow of her parents’ fame followed her everywhere.

And when they suddenly pass away, she knows she should be devastated. But has anything really changed? She’s always been alone, hasn’t she?

Jake Van der Berg, her father’s stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of 18. Sent to live with him and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb, in the mountains of Colorado, Tiernan soon learns that these men now have a say in what she chooses to care and not care about anymore.

As the three of them take her under their wing, teach her to work and survive in the remote woods far away from the rest of the world, she slowly finds her place among them.

And as a part of them.

She also realizes that lines blur and rules become easy to break when no one else is watching.

One of them has her.

The other one wants her.

But he....

He’s going to keep her.

irresponsible

I listened to this until the end to see if the male protagonist got his cunnepance. He didn't. Non consentual sexual experiences should not be 'romanticised'. In several scenes the female character said "no". I don't care if her inner dialogue said something else. It's a dangerous and irresponsible story and should be removed. Is Penelope a pen name? I really hope this wasn't written by a woman.

Male wish fulfilment, could not finish

The first “steamy” scene unacceptably depicted a woman saying “no” to a man she didn’t know forcing himself on her but she was thinking “yes” and wanting him to carry on. Not good. Didn’t get any further. Avoid.

Obsessed with sex

Absolute rubbish and gratuitous sex. Such a desirable self absorbed young girl amongst supposedly sex driven men.

Only made it to chapter 6.

What utter tripe. The poorest imitation of a Mills & Boon. Tedious, almost non existent storyline, bland characters.
Life’s too short for this kind of non literature. I’m disappointed with Audible’s write up. Made it sound far more interesting than it is and wasted my money.

Soppy teenage drama book

I got 6 hours in and could not take no more,a lot of Corny sex sense bits that make me cringe, I think with this book you either love it or hate it and I am the latter, it had potential of being a very good book but just too corny

steamy but listen to a sample 1st...

for me I found the narration ruined it. pretty awful o.t.t. breathy female which was just very repetitive in tone and bizarrely aggressive male voices.
very steamy in parts, not for the faint hearted and the male behaviour was quite ridiculous.

Plotless disturbing pedafile fantasy

17 year old orphen virgin goes to stay with her step uncle and his two young adult sons. They then proceed to have their way with her whilst praising her for being "a good girl" - really really creepy!

I've never read or heard erotic fiction before and didn't realise that is what this book was. If this is what it's like I am worried about the kind of people (who walk among us) who want to escape into such an abusive world.

I have better things to do with my time

Dreadful book

I struggled on until I had 8 hrs left but I had to give up and return this book for a refund.
I'm not a prude but any means but the sex is just offensive. However, if your thing is listening to quite descriptive sex scenes this could be the book for you.
The main character, Tiernan, is an unloved, anti-social rich girl of 17 who's parents commit suicide leaving her to go and live with her father's stepbrother. They hated each other but the much younger stepbrother takes Tiernan in to live with his 2 sons in the middle of nowhere on a farm that gets snowed on for 6 months of the year.
1. The non verbal son attacks Tiernan in the garage on his first meeting with her and although secretly she enjoys what he's doing she said no. His brother had to pull him off....
2. Her step uncle makes a pass at her in the kitchen and again she actually enjoys it but he stops.....she's disappointed!
3. She dances erotically with a girl she's never met and then wonders why all the local guys gang up to sexually abuse her. She's rescued by the non verbal cousin!
4. Back at the ranch, where the snow is starting so they'll definitely be stuck there, the 3 cousins have a bit of an orgy where they all watch each other!!!
It's just ridiculous with very unpleasant characters. I've never returned an audible book before and I'm definitely not be having anything from this author again.

😒 creepy underage vibes/horrible narration

You have to be kidding me. I couldn’t even get past the first few chapters. I’m into spice but not when it’s super weird. UNDERAGE female with a man in his 40s who’s possessive and creepy with her… I can already see where this is going. Another encounter that’s almost a r*pe scene. Main character said if it went farther it would be her fault which is gross when she practically begged him to stop. This book weirds me out. Also, the narrators need to be fired for that atrocious performance. Literally the most monotoned woman ever and then the male narrator does what I *think* is an Indian accent that is laughable and to make it worse it sounds Scottish halfway through? Why does this book have so many good ratings?? Am I the crazy one?

No, just no!

I like dark nasty erotica, but this is just gross. An old uncle figure lusting after his 17 year old niece? gross. Couldn't get through it once I figured out what was happening. And the narrator, oh lord. The female was like a monotone robot. The male waaaaaay over the top dramatic. Just bad all the way around.

I LOVE Penelope Douglas!

I just love Penelope’s books. Her stories always push the limits and help me remember how real life and emotions impact everything we choose. The depth of her character development is outstanding and always keeps me wanting more. If I had the time to read this one, I would have. The narrators, especially the males were not great. The narrator chosen for Jake sounded like he was commentating a race or fast paced competition. It was overkill and ruined Jake’s character for me.

Taboo AF, but I couldn’t put it down!

I’ve listened to over 145 books in the past year, and this is my very first written review. I absolutely had to because I COULD NOT put this book down. It has the perfect mix of interesting storyline, complicated characters, lots and lots of sexy smut but also a love story.
Now, I will say... the whole step-uncle, step-cousin romance is dicey. You’ll either not be bothered by it or you will. There are a couple cringe worthy moments when she calls him “uncle Jake” while in the throws, but it doesn’t come close to ruining the book. I listened and read this one bc it’s on kindle unlimited. I like to have the option to switch back and forth. The only narrator I found annoying was Jake. The rest were great. Great character development and an ending perfectly wrapped up in a bow. READ THIS BOOK!!!

Obsessed!

I stayed up all night listening to it, that’s how good it was. Narration starts off a bit slow/monotone. But I hardly noticed it after a while. This will definitely be a book that I listen to again. 100% worth the credit.

Straight up this is TOXIC gaslighting nonsense

If you're into books where the asshole gets away with everything because he's broken and damaged with mommy issues this book is for you, I rolled my eyes more times than I care to say this book has moments where you are like ok this is fun but then drops into some unbelievably toxic abusive behavior disguised as a confused bad boy in love so give him a break he only treats you like garbage because he doesn't know better narrative and its drives me crazy. If that's your Jam then give it a read but if you're over toxic masculinity and the bad boy narrative give this a pass.. also the narration is brutal too as an added bonus

Crazy good

This one was not my typical read. It was much darker and the content was a bit more taboo for me. But I loved it! I ended up getting the actual book and reading instead of listening to the audiobook. The narration was not great. I found that I enjoyed the story so much more without the narrators. The female they use was so monotone that it was hard to listen beyond that. But the story is so great… Steamy But with so much heart. Highly recommend reading the book
