Summary

Sexy. Demanding. Cocky.

All words I would use to describe Kingston Avery.
The owner of Avery Capital Holdings - and my new boss.

It was tempting enough working together everyday, but ignoring his wicked promises under his roof was impossible.

But the company had a zero fraternization policy, and things were already complicated enough.

I needed to focus on doing my job.
And avoid doing my boss.

Kingston wasn't just another suit...
He was a cocky suit.
And when the suit came off, he was a man who could steal my heart.

Gorgeous. Attentive. Compassionate.

I just hope it didn't cost me my career.

Ignore the scarecrow on the cover

Having listened to about ten of these romances in the Cocky Heroes Club, I have discovered two annoying things: (1) the cover photos often don’t match the book and (2) the romances are often sweet, angst filled or anything but sexy, fun good times with cocky alpha males. This book continued the false advertising trend with a cover photo featuring a skinny, dark haired guy with a sketchy mustache and beard; Kingston is a blond haired, green eyed giant of a man. Thankfully, trend number two was not a problem.

There’s a few fun changes to the usual “cocky billionaire & sexy secretary” romance, including Pria Wang as a petite Asian who’s actually a little older than Kingston. I like that she’s an executive (head of HR Dept) and not his secretary. And I love the comedic hook that brings them together as Pria fails miserably at caring for Kingston’s three dogs: little Jimmy Choo and Great Danes Sarah Jessica Barker and Orville Redenbacher.

Of course, there are still office romance plot cliches, including the implausible variety- but who reads hot romances like this for the realism? At less than six hours, this is a fun, quick listen. The first half is fun, but sexless. When the nooky begins, brace yourself; the sex is dirty, delicious, and non-stop.

There is a minor plot piece containing violence and rape themes that could be triggering- but I found it handled respectfully.

While I don’t care for the female narrator, she’s not terrible (especially at 1.2x speed) and the male narrator is awesome. Finally, if you like this type of cocky romance, try Cocksure Ace, my favorite book so far in the Cocky Heroes Club.

Oh my, the chemistry between Pria and Kingston

I had a few problems with this book: the extra-sensitive female character who cries a lot, the Asian stereotypes, the weird introduction of Aubrey and Chance through a dog park–when we already knew the connection with the Cocky Hero Club through Kingston’s friendship with Graham Morgan… And yet I enjoyed this book quite a lot.

First because of the narration. Both narrators are extremely good, and the male narrator is perfect for Kingston. I quite liked this character, by the way. He’s deliciously decadent–the things he does and says to Pria, wow! Also, for once, he isn’t a player, though maybe he’s a bit mysogynistic…

It was also an original couple: the Chinese girl with a modern view inside a traditional family, and her cocky younger boyfriend who loves dogs. It was kind of refreshing in a way. And I looooove office romances–there’s always a sexy scene on a desk somewhere!

And sexy, it was! Oh my, the chemistry between Pria and Kingston. One of my hit couples from the Cocky Hero Club for sure!

Meh

The narrator sounded like a newscaster and the story was just blah. I really don’t have much to say about this book.

3.3 stars

Listened to the audiobook. I liked the author’s writing style, and there were interesting possibilities of plotlines; but, the characters and story were underdeveloped which made the story feel disjointed. Overall, enjoyed listening - the author’s words flowed well - but wanted more.
Narration too slow to keep my attention - sped it up to 1.6 - 1.8 speed. Could appreciate the narrators' skill more if it was recorded at a more normal speed.

Office Romance

Won this title as a giveaway prize. Author is new to me. Cute storyline that kept you interested, some different takes on typical office romances. Solid narration! If your looking for a quick, feel good office romance this is a solid choice. I would be open to exploring more titles by this author.

So many things to love about this one!

While I really enjoy this story. My by FAR...HANDS DOWN favorite from this book are the names of Kingston’s Dog! Those are simply the BEST! Ok Phew! I got that out of my system. I do love these two characters. His secret affection for her is so sweet...it’s delicious! Her attitude and opinions of all things Chinese...cracked me up since...you know...she’s Chinese.

Office romances are one of my favorite tropes. This one is no exception and I will be adding this to my favorites list. I did listen to this on audio. The two narrators did a great job.

I love the cocky hero drop-ins!! Pixie is never a bad characters and I smile every darn time!

Cute story

Steamy, sweet story. I like the interracial coupling of an Asian woman, Pria to Caucasian man, Kingston Avery. That is a relationship rarely read in contemporary romance.

Kingston and Pria

This is the cutest, sweetest, and most adorable office romance I have had the pleasure to indulge myself with in a long time. Kingston is cocky, confident, and sometimes mean but Pria brings him to his knee and softens his heart. I absolutely loved this book.
All I have to say is Teddy Hamilton and that should explain how EXCELLENT the narration is.

Yes to Pria and Kingston

I’m actually a new fan of Harlow Layne and I quite enjoy her writing style. It definitely shown through in this book.

While the story was a bit unbelievable, I loved how Kingston and his dogs were a part of the story. I feel like if you’re going to be with someone, you gotta be with their pets, too. It was a rather charming aspect of this story.

Another thing I liked was Pria and her filial expectations from her parents. It’s something I thought a lot of people might not get, but those that do, really got it.

As for the chemistry, Pria and Kingston had it in spades. This was just a fun take in the Hero world and probably one of my favorites.

Muffy Newtown and Teddy Hamilton were stellar as always.
