Summary
From the number-one best-selling author of Shatter the Bones and Birthdays for the Dead, a new crime thriller featuring DS Logan McRae. Detective Inspector Logan McRae is finally getting back on his feet after the events of the last few years. Putting things behind him. Getting better.… But it was never going to last. A body turns up on the outskirts of Aberdeen: burned from the neck up, hands chained behind the back.
More murders follow - all gruesome, and with only one obvious connection. The similarities between the real-life killings and the plot of a best-selling novel about witchcraft seem more than coincidental, but the more Logan digs the more dangerous and blurred the line between fact and fiction becomes. It’s a small step from police officer to victim. And somebody’s got to take it, or everyone will die.

Jeepers!
I loved this book - my favourite Logan McRae so far. It had me hooked. Stuart MacBride is totally into his stride with some of his best description yet. I don't care that it's far-fetched because it's a great listen and the narrator has his north-east accents down to a T. I may be biased as I'm originally from Aberdeen. Perhaps this is my guilty pleasure!

Another good listen
A good laugh and a good listen. Always awaiting the next Logan McCrae instalment. A different kind of crime novel, but I love it

Excellent tartan noir
I've read several of the Stuart Mcbride novels, but this is my first audio version, and I must say the reading enhanced the experience. Steve Worsley's narration is excellent and adds to the story, he is especially good at regional Scottish accents.
I thought this story was well written and well paced, and the characters continue to develop and mature, although Inspector Steel is possibly becoming even more of a caricature than in previous novels. Great plot, one or two nice twists, kept me interested to the end. I would recommend reading these in the right order as otherwise some things will be inexplicable.

Another great read/listen!
I really enjoyed this book, I'm a great McRae fan, and I thought it was well read. The characters are very convincing - I'm a forensic psychologist, and I know Aberdeen so the book was a real connection for me. The best reading of a Stuart MacBride audio-book was done by John Sessions, whose various accents were superb but Steve Worsley comes a close second.

Close to the Bone
I gave up with this book. I found the police characters and their methods of operation very unrealistic. The story had potential but overall it didn't work for me.
