Summary
It's Christmas many years ago, and topping young Hannah Swensen's wish list is becoming the go-to baker in Lake Eden, Minnesota. But as Hannah finds out, revisiting holiday memories can be murder....
With her dream of opening The Cookie Jar taking shape, Hannah's life matches the hectic December hustle and bustle in Lake Eden - especially when she agrees to help recreate a spectacular Christmas ball from the past in honor of Essie Granger, an elderly local in hospice care. But instead of poring over decadent dessert recipes for the merry festivities, she instantly becomes enthralled by Essie's old notebooks and the tale of a woman escaping danger on the streets of New York.
Hannah's surprised by Essie's secret talent for penning crime fiction. She's even more surprised when the story turns real.
As Hannah prepares to run a bakery and move out of her mother's house, it'll be a true miracle if she can prevent another yuletide disaster by solving a mystery as dense as a Christmas fruitcake....

Why are we going backwards??
I am wondeeing if she doesn’t know how she is going to deal with the current situation. Why else would we have a story that is written in the past?
I started this book wanting to see the story progressed from the last book, and to see what what is going to happen. So, as this book doesn’t do that, I was disappointed.

Not what expected from this author
While it was interesting to go into the past there was no mystery. I have always enjoyed these books as light mystery reading, however this book just was almost silly.

Horrible Story Line
DON’T WAISTE YOUR MONEY!! DONT BUY THIS BOOK.
I hated the fact the story is going back in time. Please write the next book to wrap up this series and give poor Hannah a happily ever after!!! I will only buy the next book if it wraps up the series!!!

Horrible!!!!
If I could rate this book 0 stars I would. It might be time to end this series. Each book gets worse and worse… I keep thinking that the next one will be better but that’s not the case. I had to restart this book about 10 times because I found my mind wandering...

The Rest of the Story
Fun story that gives us the background of how the Cookie Jar came to be.

story good, performance fair.
Reading sounded juvenile and choppy at times. Story was very good. Nice to see where the characters began.

Need the Recipes!
I liked it, even though I agree it's weird to be going backwards in time.
Would really like to get the recipes. I hope they will post them in a pdf in the future.

Exceptionally poor and uninteresting novel
Too stilted and formal conversations, uninteresting, flat characters, almost zero plot, and lots of unhealthy, suspicious cooking recipes. Moreover, the narrator's performance is so poor and rigid that it sounds like an audiobook for English conversation practice.

great prequel!
This was a wonderful look not only at how Hannah came to open the Cookie Jar, but also a look into a new Lake Eden Mystery as well! Prequels are sometimes more of a novella, but this a is a charming full length Cozy! well worth the read!!

Recipes at the end of every chapter.
Put the recipes at the end of the book. If I want a recipe book I’d order one. Geez.
