Summary
Going undercover, playing the part of a disgraced former Marine, is easy for Chase Westin - until a Christmas Eve mission takes him back to his hometown and face to face with his estranged brother.
When KC, an undercover FBI agent, flies into Chase's life with her Doc Martens, purple, punk-rock hair, and Hollywood-hype leather and chains, Chase realizes that falling in love is more dangerous than catching bullets.

Excellent start to a new series
Undercover operative Chase Weston meets undercover FBI agent KC and the sparks fly! Trouble is, both of them are working different (but related) cases and neither of them know the other is undercover. Nor do they trust each other, but they can't ignore the chemistry between them!
While this is a romance, the action comes first - and what excellently written action it is! This isn't a story that leaves you hanging at the end, but it is obvious the next book will carry on from where this leaves off. I, for one, can't wait!
Joe Jung was a little shaky with his narration at the start of this story, but he soon gets into his stride and I'd be more than happy to listen to him narrate again. Worth a credit? A big YES from me! Swiftly followed by, 'Can we have book 2 soon please, kkthx!'

Wow, this was a surprise. A good one!
It’s always a risk to try an author you haven’t tried before. This one paid off. It started off good and it just got better. It has very little sexual content but it has lots of undercover FBI action. It’s very fast paced and allot happens in a short time but if you enjoy bad guys, good guys and romance I think you’ll enjoy this.

Barely Chasing Shadows
This is potentially a good start to action romance series. But then it falls just short of the mark. The two main characters instance attraction might be the problem. I would have liked to have had a slower and more intense build to their romance. There was potential to keep us on the edge but the romance seemed to be rushed. I like the strong female lead KC and Chase as the alpha male in pursuit. Maybe it is the development of the bad guys that would have helped. But there is potential. And the supporting characters are definitely intriguing. If the book is on sale it is worth a listen. Let’s hope the author can provide more depth to the next book. Compared to KGI series by Maya Banks this one is a little lukewarm.

Wondering till the end.
This was a great first Shadow Ops book. It will not be my last. The combo of wispersync technology made progress awesome.
Love the relatable characters.

Boring
Read through chapter 38 and gave up. Slow pace and poor narration. Monotone with few voice modulation. Expected better.

Emotional
At times was so gut wrenching I had to put it down, walk away. Twists, turns, subplots. Romantic suspense with an edge.

Meh
This book went on and on. I saw no connection between the love interests and yet they were all the sudden in love. I never became invested in the characters or the story and actually fell asleep through part of it and hardly noticed. It was part if the Audible Escape package so at least I didn’t waste a credit on it.

Narrator’s voice too high pitched
I couldn’t get beyond the first chapter. The story line sounded promising but theNarrator’s voice comes across as effete. Not much romantic in that.
