Summary

It’s a good thing Gabe Bristow lives and breathes the Navy SEAL credo, “the only easy day was yesterday”, because today, his life is unrecognizable. When his prestigious career comes to a crashing halt, he’s left with a bum leg and few prospects for employment that don’t include a desk.

That is, until he’s offered the chance to command a private hostage-rescue team and free a wealthy American businessman from Colombian paramilitary rebels. It seems like a good deal - until he meets his new team: a drunk Cajun linguist, a boy-genius CIA threat analyst, an FBI negotiator with mob ties, a cowboy medic, and an EOD expert as volatile as the bombs he defuses. Oh, and who could forget the sexy, frustratingly impulsive Audrey Van Amee? She’s determined to help rescue her brother - or drive Gabe crazy. Whichever comes first.

As the death toll rises, Gabe’s team of delinquents must figure out how to work together long enough to save the day. Or, at least, not get themselves killed. Because Gabe’s finally found something worth living for, and God help him if he can’t bring her brother back alive.

Narrator is too slow so played it at 1.2 speed and it was fine. Enjoyed the story.

Good

I really enjoyed the story although i found it a bit confusing to follow at points.

The POV kept changing but not stating it had. I was able to tell from context but a few times had to pause to be sure. Loved that it was in different views, but I would've preferred to have it noted.

Yes, just YES

I definitely enjoyed this book. I have not read/listened to any other books by this author or heard this narrator before. I therefore had no preconceived ideas about either. Having read a few of the other reviews II am amazed what others don't like, I seemed to enjoy. For instance, I liked the length. I am often dissatisfied by other authors that rush through parts of the story when I want to hear more. I thought the rough narrstor's voice perfectly matched the character of Gabe. I was entertained and gripped throughout and am glad we are not all like.

story was interesting enough to sustain until the end. but a bit long winded. some of the prose detracted a bit from the plot . well narrated.

All in: pace, action, heroes, unexpected heroine and passion

It was a complex story but that’s always the case with a first in a series: takes a bit to get a grip on all the persons involved. It was a good mixture of personal story and action and suspense. And of course all heroes a story needs and deserves. It took a bit more time to get used to the voices but changing speed always helps to fine tune to individual preference. Can’t wait to get to listen to all the series.

Love it, fantastic read

Interesting listen. There is nothing like a good story about a sexy, rugged, military men. After serving their countryand is a little damage. Finding love in a strong woman who see pass his pain and imperfections, helped him to see himself as the wonderful man he his

Clunky

If you like action romances featuring military men, try Cindy Gerard’s Black Ops or Bodyguard series. This is a poor substitute.

NO, JUST NOO

Bornes Voice just don’t do for this kind of story !
A biker or BDSM story is more his voice, it kills the pace and working of this book !
The story is a BIT thinner on the read-through factor then a lot of other special forces books and/ore series of books.
