Summary
Luke Roberts came to the small, lazy town of Kilgore, Texas, with one thing on his mind: forgetting. He wanted to forget why he left. Forget those emerald green eyes that haunted his dreams. And forget how it felt to have his heart ripped out of his chest by a woman who didn't like the fact that he had a child. It was something he'd been doing a damn fine job of doing, too. Until Reese smashed through every one of his defenses and made him feel again.
Reese Doherty was just trying to do the best for her little girl. So she moved to the little boomtown nearly an hour from where she grew up to be the school nurse for Kilgore's littlest people. That's where she met him. The SWAT officer, the man that would change her life forever.
But Luke was a hero. A man used to risking his life to make the world a safer place. Something Reese had to decide whether she could handle or not. Preferably before her and her daughter became too attached.
Just when she was ready to give him her whole heart, her world took a huge hit, and everything she thought she knew wasn't as it seemed.
Luke wasn't a quitter, though. Damn far from it, and he'd prove to her that he'd be there when the dust settled.
Contains mature themes.

Top five favorite
I adore this book. This is one of my all time favorite books. (Since I read hundreds a year, that says something) I’ve probably read/listened to it 20+ times. There is enough drama to keep me interested, but Nothing that has me rolling my eyes and slapping my forehead.
Our H and h are both single parents, and I love how Lani writes in a way that the kids aren’t forgotten and they are age appropriate and have flushed out personalities.
Luke and Reese are adorable. They bicker, they flirt and they have real give and take.
And I really enjoy the narrators they chose for this book.

should be classified as Erotica
Quite disappointed. I wasn't able to finish it. Wasted of my money. I could see a plot trying to emerge but between the profanity and sex I just couldn't.

eh..disappointing :(
I couldn't wait to get this book based on reviews. For me it was disappointing. The male narrator was not the right choice IMO. He was too dramatic~ish and soft spoken for the character's tough guy exterior. The story line was good, but it was rushed and without a good lead in to the action scenes. The sex scenes were very explicit, some would call steamy. :/ Might be great for others, but not my cup of tea.

Wow
If you’re single, hold on to your seats and might need to download dating apps... it’s hot, sexy, emotional, and beyond anything else frustrating to read single.
Author uses amazing description of everything making the characters relatable to life and easy to imagine scenes. The dual voice audio really sells the book too. Can’t read all the books by this author!

Good story but narrator ruins it.
I just can't take listening to C.J. Bloom. She ruins it for me. Good story, but can't do the audio version.

Awesome 😎
I wish the female heroine 🦸♀️ was a little more independent, ass kicker and didn’t give in to easily. A little more grittier.
Over all, LLV is awesome. Great series

Easy love story. 1POV. HEA. Standalone.
Overall a great story. Although standalone, you get more info on the characters from the Rejects.

Gets me every time.
I love a book that can suck you in until you feel like part of the story. I fell in love with the characters. It doesn't matter how many times I listen, it still makes me cry at the sad part and makes me laugh in the funny parts.

Pleasantly surprised!
I picked this up during an Audible sale and wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it based on some of the reviews and comments about the narration. After all, narration can make or break even the most captivating storyline and well-written book. I was pleasantly surprised! I can be a bit critical when it comes to male narration. I’m a big fan of Connor Crais, Teddy Hamilton, Zachary Webber, and Sebastian York, and those four voices pretty much set the male standard for me. This was my first time to listen to Jeremy York and I’m happy to say I thought he voiced Luke perfectly! I wouldn’t hesitate to listen to him again.
The storyline was very good, but there were a few details missing in certain parts that resulted in holes in the story. They didn’t significantly deter from the main plot, but they did leave me thinking, “Wait, what???” in some situations.
Overall this was a great listen. Lani Lynn Vale is a new-to-me author, and based on this story I intend to shop for more of her books.
