Summary

DI Alec McKay is a man haunted by the loss of his daughter. As he obsesses over a missing person case that is going nowhere, McKay's investigation is interrupted when bodies start appearing on the Scottish Black Isle. Soon McKay and his team start to identify a disturbing pattern behind the killings.

Why are candles and roses placed around the bodies?

What is this twisted murderer trying to achieve?

While the police follow their own leads, a young woman who discovered the first victim begins an investigation of her own.

As the case unfolds McKay will be forced to face his own demons.

To catch the killer McKay must discover the true motive and untangle the web of truth and lies.

Terrible Narration

Really difficult to follow the story because the narration is so bad. Clearly never heard of editing! I’ve enjoyed the authors other books, but I would give this a miss. I preserved because it’s the first in the series and I’m hoping there is a different narrator on the next one!

narrator

what a diabolical production of a great book Audible, why haven't you got this book reread. I persisted because I plan to hear the full series. Unfair to be charged for such an appalling production.

poor editing

the story would have been a lot better had the editor done their job correctly. i lost count of the amount of sentences repeated with the narrator apologising for making a mistake before rereading it. this detracted feom the overall enjoyment.

Edit out all the repeats

Most of the book needs editing. The narrator would say something stop and say it again m. Very annoying.

Disappointing narration

Narration/ phrasing not good. No editing out of mistakes/ retakes. Enjoyed the storyline though.

Terrible narration

Even though this is the first book in the series I’m so glad I read the other books first or I would not have gone further. The narration is awful. No I’m not critical of the accent, I’m a Scot and it’s fine, it’s the presentation, the acting if you like. It’s so boring. I’m struggling through because the stories are generally very good. I would advise that you give this one a miss and start with book 2 of the series.

Waste of a credit.

Narrator made this impossible to listen to. Other narrators for this author have been great.

enjoyable

Not sure why everyone is slagging off this narrator. He has a lovely voice and delivery (at speed 1.2). I tried listening to books 2-4, and that narrator's voice is like claws on a blackboard, completely unlistenable. The story and characters are engaging and I enjoyed it. Sadly, I won't be listening to the rest of the series due to the new narrator.

poor narration mostly due to dreadful editing

I cannot ever recall listening to a book with so many narration errors that have not been edited out, you can even hear the narrator saying sorry on several occasions.
