Summary

A compelling biography of Camilla, Queen Consort, that reveals how she transformed her role and established herself as one of the key members of the royal family.

For many years, Camilla was portrayed in a poor light, blamed by the public for the break-up of the marriage between Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Initially, the Queen refused to see or speak to her, but, after the death of Prince Philip, the Duchess became one of the Queen's closest companions. Her confidence in Camilla and the transformation she saw in Prince Charles since their wedding resulted in her choosing the first day of her Platinum Jubilee year to tell the world that she wanted Camilla to be Queen Consort not the demeaning Princess Consort suggested in 2005.

Angela Levin uncovers Camilla’s rocky journey to be accepted by the royal family and how she coped with the brutal portrayal of her in Netflix's The Crown. The public have witnessed her tremendous contribution to help those in need, especially during Covid. Levin has talked to many of the Duchess’s long-term friends, her staff and executives from the numerous charities of which Camilla is patron. She reveals why Camilla concentrates on previously taboo subjects, such as domestic violence and rape. Most of all, Levin tells the story of how Camilla has changed from a fun-loving young woman to one of the senior royals’ hardest workers. She has retained her mischievous sense of humour, becoming a role model for older women and an inspiration for younger ones.

Camilla is both an extraordinary love story and a fascinating portrait of an increasingly confident Queen Consort. It is an essential listen for anyone wanting a greater insight into the royal family.

Fantastic listen

I’ve listened to a few biographies of Camilla but must admit this was my favourite, well researched, well read and well presented. Actually disappointed it’s finished.
Also impressed that the last chapter altered slightly to incorporate the passing of Her Majesty the Queen (especially as book was published around the time of her passing).

This is a thoroughly good read

I really enjoyed this book about Camilla queen consort. It explains an awful lot about her life and the sort of person she is. Very very well written a thoroughly good read.

Pro Camilla

It’s good to read about Camilla’s experience of well documented events, however; the book would have been a 5 star if it wasn’t so obviously biased in Camilla’s favour. The book makes an unnecessary point of portraying Diana, Harry and Meghan in a negative light which was really distasteful. OK read overall.

Waste of money!

Complete waste of money. Repetitive dribble. I have no fixed opinion of Camilla but this author should have had saint in the title. The monarch is not monarch of England but the United Kingdom! Think it was written for the American market. I would not have given it any stars but you have to to proceed.

A good book to read

I always believed that Diana was wrong and I still do as a young woman she was, but I think there has to be a time that you have to put a line in the sand and say king. Charles deserves to be happy and Camilla makes him happy for all the wrong, there should be some right and I think it’s time to allow her to be Queen, Camilla passed is past and it shows there happy and she seems very nice 😊 enjoyed this book

Good book but nothing new

There is so much in general press now it’s very hard to have anything new in a book like this
However it’s a decent book and very well read

Really enjoyable

Delightful insight into our new Queen. She is an amazing person and has had to put up with much from many people. I admire her strength and integrity.

I really enjoyed that.

I had my doubts because I have seen Angela Levin on TV as one of the 'royal experts' and not been impressed. However, this was well researched, well written and a well narrated biography. The pace was good and above all it showed Camilla for what she was, someone you just end up liking. Not perfect but open about her faults and not someone who harbours grudges. A certain prince intent on blaming others, keeping scorecards and nursing grudges and imaginary snubs would do well to learn from her not direct his anger at her.

Disappointed ...

I found it disappointing.
Apart from Camila's hunting pursuits, I am a fan.
But all on this talking book is same old, nothing we haven't heard before.
Nothing of her childhood and teenage years, or when both Charles and Camila met?
Such chemistry and love should be acknowledged.
The title From Outcast to Queen suggested to me, to contain the why's and wherefores
of her initial rejection by The Royal Family some 55 years ago.
It caused so very much sadness for all concerned.
So sad.
