About this listen

In Blarney, Cork, an old millworker's cottage guards its secrets.

In 1921 a mother, a father and their two young children disappeared from this house. And now, 95 years later, their mummified bodies have been discovered under the floorboards.

As DS Katie Maguire investigates, the flames of old family rivalries flare up once more...and Katie is caught in the crossfire.

Critic reviews

"One of this country’s most exciting crime novelists...he has established the engaging character of Irish Detective Superintendent Katie Maguire in a series of three fine crime novels. If you have not read one, read all four now." ( Daily Mail)

extremely violent

Good story and characterization, but every book in the series gets more gruesome. Gratuitous torture scenes don't add to the plot.

Enjoyable, but...

This was a little slap stick at times. There’s something that happens to someone early on and it’s just farcical and the way the characters behaved and spoke I wasn’t sure if the books had all meant to be comedy’s and I hadn’t realised! Also I really don’t like Katie, at times she makes very strange decisions. While I really like this narrator many of the characters had quite comic accents. None the less, it was largely entertaining even though I find it difficult to listen when people are so cavalier about the lives of others, even though I do realise this is fiction.

always Guaranteed 1 thing

You're always guaranteed one thing with this author, and that is a wonderful story with more twists and bends than a bad road in rural Ireland, but you NEVER guaranteed a good narrator... unfortunately! and this is definitely not one of the best. The big problem for me is you get used to what a main character sounds like, but this Katie sounds more like a man with a cold than what I've been used to in previous books.

DEAD - but by no means buried.....

WOW.

Graham Masterton continues to amaze me how different and damn right compelling he makes each new Katie McGuire novel.

I've been waiting ages for this to appear on Audible, with eager anticipation.

It didn't disappoint.

Initially I thought the story was a little slow but all of a sudden BOOM! it grabs you. And it doesn't let go...

As ever you try to predict the ending but this keeps you guessing...

All characters are so believable and as ever, the Irish narration adds context and authenticity.

This is probably my favourite KM novel to date and I finished it this evening drained, yet enthralled....

I cannot WAIT for the next....

Superb. Highly recommended!

Fabulous

This book had me hooked from the start. The narration was first class. The story weaved in and out and kept me on my toes, wondering what would happen next.
