Story
DS Ewan Striker is the best detective on the force. Unconventional and uncompromising, he is respected and feared in equal amounts. Tag Westland is a rookie. A rich boy who has realised that being a cop is not as glamorous as he first thought. In fact, he has his resignation in his pocket. Stewart hatches a plan to destroy the evidence against him, but inside McCauley's files is evidence of a vile paedophile ring operating under the Chief's nose. Story
It was 2:47 a.m. when Chief Inspector Alan Banks arrived at the barn and saw the body of Keith Rothwell for the first time. Only hours earlier two masked men had walked the mild-mannered accountant out of his farmhouse and clinically blasted him with a shotgun. Clearly this is a professional hit - but Keith was hardly the sort of person to make deadly enemies. Or was he? For the police investigation soon raises more questions than answers. And who, exactly, is Robert Clavert?

Great listen, I really enjoyed it. It captures 1980s Northern England well. The mentions of Malaya and Aden at the start certainly set the scene for the last few chapters..Brutal.

Keeble does it again
So I really am not a fan of gangster novels but the reviews were good and as for Jonathan - you just can't do better, and he really did sink his teeth into this one. Violence is never pretty and Mr White has a penchant for such drama: so if your tastes match his, then this will be a sure hit. As for me ..... perhaps I need to find a gentler fare for my next listen!

Very good story
This was such an enjoyable book, I listened to it in two days as I couldn’t turn it off. The narrator was fantastic, so good with all the different voices. I loved the way the story unfolded, using the narrator as the detective narrating the story. I don’t know if this is a reflection of my own personality but I thought the ending was justified and very deserved by the villains.

Perfection
This novel had it all. Depth of story, rich and believable characters, realistic dialogue and enough drama with surprising twists to keep you guessing. I admit I am hard to please and I exchange books more often than I'd like. I especially cannot deal with poor narration or unrealistic dialogue that is inappropriate to the story. This is a gritty yarn about crime and human emotion and I was not yanked out of the story even once by amateur or clumsy writing. Robert White knows what he is doing and I will be purchasing everything audible has available from him. This is the second title I have listened to and they have both been excellent. There is a strong element of violence but only where it belongs. No graphic description just for the sake of it. Just realistic, damned good writing. Thank you Robert White :)

I HAVE NEVER LEFT A SINGLE WRITTEN REVIEW, UNTIL THIS!
*IMPORTANT*: I listened at .08 speed- made a big difference in my opinion and I loved it! Best audiobook I’ve found in a loooong time. I feel like these days unfortunately I am spending so much time searching through the content on audible and sadly end up missing a lot more than I am hitting on a good one. But This was fantastic! Totally a Breathe of fresh air for crime/mystery/gritty detective or whatever label you want to categorize it in.. but the author and narrator are a stellar combo and truly enjoyed. Also I’m very confused as to why this author and his stand alone novels are not more well known and blowing up the charts let alone even mentioned on any charts!?!?
