Summary
Cassie has spent her married life doing everything right - making sure her children have the perfect lives and being a devoted wife to her husband and a dutiful daughter-in-law to his mother, even when her patience has been tested. Although it has left her so exhausted that 'wine o'clock' comes a little earlier each afternoon. But she wouldn't change a thing, she's certain, until temptation comes her way....
Her sister, Coco, runs a vintage dress shop, and sure, she's shied away from commitment over the years. It's just that Coco believes men complicate things more than necessary, and she's got enough to contend with looking after her business and her staff, who seem to rely on her more and more for relationship advice. But who is she to give advice when her own life is so simple?
Watching over them is grandmother Pearl, tucked away in her little house in Delaney Square with her chickens, busy with her poker club and a secret lover. But something is keeping her awake at night. Was she right to do what she did all those years ago? Surely, if she were right, she wouldn't be thinking about it so often now....
And then there's Elsa, the polished face of daytime TV who's battled demons of her own in the past and come out on top. Now Elsa faces one final battle - but this one will require more bravery than anything that's come before.

Excellent!
Any additional comments?
I haven't read this author before as I had the impression (probably due to the covers and titles) that her novels would be of the fluffy, with no substance variety of chic lit. However, something about the synopsis of Between Sisters attracted me and I bought it as a 'palette cleanser' between crime fiction tales. In the event, I found it to be a lovely, absorbing story. All of the characters were well written and engaging. A really good read/listen.

Devoted Sisters...
What did you like most about Between Sisters?
Between Sisters for me was a brilliant listen as with all the wonderful characters who really mattered to each part of the story. I loved how the author brought them into each part of the storyline.
Coco and Cassie are devoted to each other simply because they had to be as their mother left them both when they were small. Coco was only a baby therefore, she does not really remember her mother she only remembers her father always being sad. Cassie remembers her Mum, and she carries the heartache of her leaving them throughout her life which you will see through the main storyline.
The sisters are the two main characters, there are supporting characters which really mattered to the storyline and each of them had an important part to play.
This book had it all, broken hearts, broken promises, alcohol dependency and so much more.
What other book might you compare Between Sisters to, and why?
I would compare this to all of Cathy Kelly's books as she has a wonderful gift of understanding human emotions and how they can control your past and present.
What does Caroline Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Caroline Lennon has a gift of giving each of the characters a separate voice, not only that she brought the story alive through a way of not only narrating Cathy Kelly's own writing but acting out the story - in fact she did it so well I knew immediately who she was talking about simply by the tone of her voice!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES!!! I was always stealing moments to listen to more of Coco and Cassie's life plus their darling grandmother Pearl.
Any additional comments?
simply I loved it... one of the best books I have received from Audible..

Don't Judge the Book by the Cover!
This was a wonderful 'palate cleanser'. Loved this book, the characters were well created and the story engrossing. Great story and although the cover of the book, suggests it might be a little too 'chic lit,' it touched on some serious issues. It was not sickly sweet either.
Caroline Lennon, the narrator, is one of the best and so brings the characters and story to life.
Recommended.

Family complications!
I loved this book so much more than I thought I would. I know that makes it sound negative but it really isn't that, I've just never read anything by Cathy Kelly before then I went to an event with her and loved the sound of the book so I downloaded the audio book and absolutely raced through it, i literally couldn't wait to get in the car and get stuck into it. I listened to the last 3 hours back to back when I got home, it was so exciting.
The characters in this book are so strong, I am thinking about them still! I loved these sisters and all the other characters who revolved around them. When phoebe (not a sister) was introduced to the story, I was a little confused about where she would fit in to it all but she actually turned out to be one of my favourite characters and her storyline has really stuck with me. It was fabulous how each character had a chapter at a time dedicated to them but also each character was intertwined with another and so it was all woven together beautifully!
I really liked that fact that the book took place over a pretty short time frame and yet we have lots of references to things that have gone on in the past and so you really feel like you have been taken into these characters lives and embraced into their inner circle. Although it did jump around between places and characters it was easy to follow and was so engaging, you barely noticed that you were having to adjust to someone else!
I think this would be a great read for anyone who wants a good heart-warming read, esepcially at this time of year when family are so improtant. I think if you have children or if you don't have children, you will be able to identify with the characters in this book. And if, like me, this is your first Cathy Kelly book, or whether you are a Cathy Kelly fan already, you won't be disappointed! This would also make a lovely Christmas present...
