Summary

Leigh Weston thought she'd left a troubled past behind when she moved back home to Carrington, North Carolina. But when dive team investigator Ryan Parker finds a body in the lake near her home, she fears the past hasn't stayed where it belongs.

After a harrowing experience with an obsessed patient, oncology nurse practitioner Leigh Weston needed a change. She thought she'd left her troubles behind when she moved home to Carrington, North Carolina, and took a job in the emergency department of the local hospital. But when someone tampers with her brakes, she fears the past has chased her into the present. She reaches out to her high school friend turned homicide investigator, Ryan Parker, for help.

Ryan finds satisfaction in his career, but his favorite way to use his skills is as a volunteer underwater investigator with the Carrington County Sheriff's Office dive team. When the body of a wealthy businessman is discovered in Lake Porter, the investigation uncovers a possible serial killer - one with a terrifying connection to Leigh Weston and deadly implications for them all.

Dive into the depths of fear with an exciting new voice in romantic suspense. Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn grabs listeners by the throat and doesn't let go until the heart-pounding end.

Another Great Faith Author!

I am so glad I found Lynn Huggins Blackburn. The twists and turns in the plot kept me wondering The Who, why, what, and where. I did not figure it out which is unusual for me.
Way to go Ms. Blackburn!
If you appreciate Inspirational suspense novels you will want to read/listen to this one.
One thing that enticed me to listen is the narrator Kate Forbes, I love her performances.
I can’t wait for more books from these two.

Loved the humor

Great building of characters- great humor you don’t usually find in this genre- good plot! For a murder mystery it was a little variety from constantly women being the target and the villain a man! A great listen!!

Too long

I didn’t care for this book at all I had to speed it up and returned it. Too much explaining about breakfast, coffee.... “The author” must be in middle school.

Beneath the Surface

Excellent novel and narrator. This story was well balanced with clean romance, Spirituality and suspense. I loved the characters of Leigh, Ryan and their friends. The law enforcement dive team was intriguing. I’m looking forward to many more by this author. Ms. Blackburn is a blessing and truly gifted.

Exciting, held my interest.

It held me in suspense and on the edge of my seat. I very much enjoyed it. And it encouraged faith in God which I particularly enjoyed. And it was free of bad language and embarrassing immortality. Great listening!

Would be better if 30% shorter

I don’t like romance novels, I like mystery novels. This novel is 50%-60% romantic, the rest is the mystery. The mystery part is pretty good, I’d give the mystery part 4-4.5 stars; the continuing angst between the romantic characters was tiring and ridiculous; their interactions were so sappy and boring. I could tolerate a little romance in the story, but this was way overdone. I’m ok mostly with the praying a lot, but they could cut a bit of that too. The whole thing was wordy and dragged. I won’t continue with this author.

Did not expect the extreme proselytism

Save your money, Just dig those Jehovahs Witnesses tracts out of the trash and read them. Even the performance is interrupted by pauses as though she can’t believe the extreme religiosity of what she’s reading. Maybe I’m too tainted by the conservative christian paradox of exclusion and intolerance, but to me, this book is proselytism, not fiction.

Too much Jesus

Good story line but so much religion.
I’m a Christian, this was a bit to preach for me. Everyone in this story was praying and going to church except for the killer. I wish that were true but not all humans go to church, don’t curse, don’t drink, no sex, it was a little too vanilla and not enough reality for the heaviness of the subject that was being written about.
