Summary

When a cantankerous old woman dies at her home in the sleepy, picturesque village of Bamburgh, DCI Ryan doesn’t think much of it—except, that is, for the small matter of it having been his wife who happened to find her body. Then another body turns up amongst the sand dunes at the base of the mighty castle fortress, and he decides it can’t be a coincidence....

Meanwhile, after a recent revelation about her sister, DC Melanie Yates’ quest to avenge her death is becoming an obsession—much to the concern of those around her. With a new DCS to contend with and hundreds of cold case files to sift through, the chances of uncovering a dormant killer seem unlikely. But as Melanie delves deeper into the secrets of the past to uncover the truth, she soon realises it lies much closer to home....

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

A bit disappointing, to be honest.

I had waited a long time for this next installment from my favourite author. Jonathon Keeble characterizes Ross's writing wonderfully bringing the adventure to life. The story line had a few twists and turns, but it felt rushed. the brevity of this one was a disappointment. We are told the perpetrator way too soon here and Ryan's team are onto him far too quickly. Much is redeemed though by Keeble"s reliable performance. There is a danger of formulaic writing here, I fear.

Lacks a little

The story just seemed a. Little short and lacked the usual twists and turn. Perhaps, to many bent policeman, think this is the third baddie policeman.

Wonderful

I listened to this over 2 days, it was wonderful. I love Jonathan Keeble reading these DCI Ryan mysteries, he is a brilliant narrator. The storyline was strong and kept my attention until the end. Well done, highly recommend.

An excellent addition to the DCI Ryan series

I was so happy to have the next in this excellent series to enjoy. LJ Ross never disappoints, her characters remain true to their type and as we follow the latest instalment of their journey we get closure on a long standing injustice. Fantastic as always.

Brilliant murder mystery police drama a must read

Absolutely brilliant as you would expect not only was there a current set of murders but also historic murders so close to the team being Melanie's sister, I was in tears towards the end so scared that Mel was going to do something silly, narration as usual was brilliant

a bit disappointing

For me it seamed as if the story line was more about tying up the loose ends of the previous book, more than the plot itself. I don't know if Lj rushed the book,or is getting board with these characters. However, I am still looking forward to the next book.

Wonderful series and narration..

Forget all the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews. This book was every bit as good as the other 18 books in this series I've read. I absolutely love Ryan and his wife Anna, and Ryan's team. He's not only a brilliant detective but his feelings for his team runs so deep they might as well be blood relatives.

This book was about two murders but the one that was most concentrated on was the fifteen year old murder of Melanie's twin sister, Gemma, and Mel's secrets and lies when she found out who the killer was while planning of killing him.

No romance and no swearing.

As for the narration: If Jonathan Keeble was ever taken away as the narrator of this series I would definitely stop listening to the stories. Jonathan Keeble is definitely Maxwell Finley-Ryan and Frank Phillips.

This was awful

In the beginning I enjoyed this series. But this book was disjointed with 2 completely separate and unrelated plot lines. And the perpetrator was revealed at the very beginning which took away from the mystery and intrigue. And maybe it’s just me but there are so many serial killer books out there now it’s become old and worn out. There just aren’t enough serial killers in this world to justify so many serial killer plot lines. Enough already

Bamburgh

I waited so long for the audiobook, but boy was it worth the wait! The more DCI Ryan books I read, the more addicted I get! Love the characters and the author has such a special way of bringing in the emotions and always a special ending. Truly hope this series never end.

Excellent!

Hard to believe this is the 19th book in the DCI Ryan series. And each is fantastic!

This book is full of intensity. We know who the bad guy is right up front. Poor Melanie’s twin sister is abducted and murdered. Her comments to her abductor, although she thinks at the time he’s a savior, broke my heart.

We see a different side of Melanie and Ryan’s team all play a part in bringing her sister’s murderer and solve a few others in this great book. I must admit that the resolution of the other murders seemed rushed.

All in all, I love these characters and Louise’s stories. The narration was well worth waiting for.
