Summary
The Sullivans are a normal family. But after being transported to the magical world of Arenia, normal isn’t a luxury they can afford.
It’s just another Thanksgiving for the Sullivans - until the walls disappear and they discover they are being transported to Arenia, a place where game rules are real and their Earthen ability to reincarnate grants them unlimited potential.
Or it would, if the celestial administrator in charge of their case hadn’t mixed up longitude and latitude and sent the wrong family. Oops. Too bad he already faked their deaths.
Now scattered throughout the Arenian wilderness and armed only with their Tomes - books containing all of their skills, accomplishments, and quests - the family members must discover a strength they didn’t know they had if they are going to survive long enough to find each other.
Note: Contains some profanity and a turkey, but not a profane turkey. Personally, I’m fine with profane turkeys, but if that’s where you draw the line, you should know that there are none in this book. In fact, I’m going to promise you no profane turkeys for the entire series. That’s my gift to you.

Awesome family Isekai
One of the issues with a lot of the family books is that some characters are more compelling than others. I like that this one is more focused on the kids and frand father instead of having everything revolve around the parents. I really enjoyed listening to this book, the narration was awesome, and I will definitely be getting the second one when it comes out.
This book acts as an introduction to the world and characters, and nothing much happens except that they get past what amounts to a tutorial for the reader and them, though it isn't formalized as such (no one is actually guiding them, really)

A fun litrpg experience
Arrival is a pretty good book with an outstanding performance by Jeff Hays. It has a ton of funny and witty jokes that I enjoyed and continued listening to the book giggle late into the night. The summary of the book is a bit misleading, though it does explain exactly what happens in the book. We have a bunch of characters and follow their journey through the book from different perspectives and experiences with generation-specific jokes of course.
Does the book take itself seriously with all the jokes and references in it? On a scale of 0 (batman) to 10 (the prince has no pants), it's around a 3. An absurd situation is followed by a life or death experience with a smooth enough transition that you have enough time to switch the gears. I had a few breathtaking and clutch moments in between the jokes, so it's somewhere close to Dungeon Crawler Carl in that sense. A minor critique is that the pacing of events for some of the characters is too fast, haptic, or inconsistent, and a few times I found myself waiting for the POV to change to a different family member.
In the end I really enjoy the book overall and looking forward to the next one in series!

Too short and too many perspectives
I will start off by saying that I respect anyone who actually manages to write a book but I still have to give my honest opinion when writing a review.
The story itself is actually fine. I like most of the characters and the others I don't hate they just haven't had a chance to become interesting yet.
The family of 5 (6 if you count the Turkey which we apparently do) are accidentally transfered instead of some loner who wouldn't be missed. In the process the family is screwed over multiple times and end up being split from each other instead of arriving together on this new world. They all have the same starter quest to meet up in the nearby city. This means the story that already seems pretty short is not split into 5 perspectives. They are all challenged to a certain degree and has to survive but the constant shift between the family members and the length of the story makes it feel like half or even a quarter of a real book. It is simply too short and almost nothing happens because of it. If the family had arrived together it might have alleviated this but even then it still seems pretty short.

I need more.
moremoremoremoremoremoremore. more.
I got the audio book for free as part of a promotion. normally I like to wait until an author has at least a couple books out, and here's why. this book is why. I want more, I can't have more, now I have to wait. I don't want to wait. There's a magic turkey running around a forest right now and I want, no I need to know everything about that as soon as possible.
Jeff Hays has a voice almost as magical as that turkey, and the audio enhancements add to the storytelling without distracting from it. Another great job from Soundbooth.

SBTheater is the ONLY plus here
wow, this was so boring. The jokes weren't landing. The world system was bland and uninspired.

A good start to a new LITRPG
Family abducted and thrown into another world to fight. Same ol same ol but this one is actually pretty well done and has potential for a good story in the follow up books.
