Summary

One moment, everything was normal. Then the World Core woke up and slaughtered almost everything alive so it could harvest their Chi.

After that, it rebuilt everything and put the survivors in a game-like environment, pitting them against monsters and each other.

The rules are different now. Chi power is as important as being able to fight.

I'm one of the survivors. With my knowledge of martial arts and my special Chi skill, I'm turning myself into a force to be reckoned with.

And the women I meet along the way?

Let's just say there's more than one advantage to joining my party.

This is a western cultivation fantasy adventure that includes a definite sense of progression and Gamelit/LitRPG elements. It contains the complete trilogy.

Intriguing

A very interesting take on the system apocalypse trope, although Harbinger definitely needs a high five to the face with a heavy blunt object lol. A very good blend of characters. The Soul Palace is a great power to allow your characters to power up and practice. I was also impressed that the Harem took work rather than everyone just being happy to join.

Jack Porter has outdone himself in this action-packed series. The Apocalypse is my favorite genre is this one did not disappoint. The story is fast-paced and yet very detailed. The world-building is amazing and the interactions between the group are very interesting. all in all, a very fun and engaging series with great narration.

not recommended

not recommended unless you are a big fan of post apocalypse litrpgs. it wasnt boring, but it wasnt good either. it was fine.

the performances by the voice actors were nothing to complain about, but it wasnt outstanding either.

overall this audio book is a 6/10 for me. if you came for the cute girl on the cover, its still not worth it imo.

Ummm this is damn near a smut novel

I got a free review copy so here goes my review, brace yourself. This novel is basically a dude having a magic core that bonds with other cores via having sex over and over again. And it goes into great great detail during the sex scenes….no fading to black. This could of been a great novel if that was left out. I don’t mind sex in books but when it’s like this it’s like I feel embarrassed just listen to it. I don’t know where these 5 star reviews come from but they must be fake or really love haram/smut novels. If you think I’m full of it use a credit and see for yourself….just don’t listen to it around kids.

Bestest, gorgeousest cover ever! Fun story too!

As required by U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and Audible requirements, I am disclosing that I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request. I have listened to the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left an honest review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating nor my review.

“Apocalypse Core: The Complete Trilogy” has the most gorgeous (gorgeousest!) cover for Tryne! You’ll want this audiobook in your collection just for the art!

Okay, for the narration and fun LITRPG story too, but…that cover! I’ve previously reviewed Book 1, so I’ll comment on Books 2 and 3 in this review.

Book 2 opens with two of MC’s bonds (Tryne and Ripper) sizing each other up; things work out though once as yet unbonded Blue forces them to admit their jealousy. Once again, the always goofy and hilarious Humphrey provides lots of comic relief…and he does relieve himself often and everywhere!

I generally get impatient with LITRPG books that include what I consider “too much” of a focus on stats and leveling up, but I found Apocalypse Core lots of fun, and I enjoyed the many ways the characters continued to build their strengths. Let’s face it, who can’t enjoy a book with the MCs fighting “Pscho Shrubberies”! I wonder if they created a nice two-level effect?

The individual characters are each unique, and we learn more about the women as the humans they once were than we did in book 1. Book 2 ends with Blue bonding with Marc as Tryne and Ripper enjoy the show (this isn’t really a spoiler; you must know that was…err, coming).

Book 3 brings in the delightful and partly insane dual personality Evelyn, the superpowered demon. The many trials the party confronts become more than just brute strength or Chi power battles; there are some interesting twists for working together that I enjoyed quite a bit. Some of the combining powers techniques reminded me of David Burke’s wonderful Decend series.

In book 1, the role and purpose of the World Core wasn’t clear to me, but in book 3 it makes sense. New light is shed on the snarky Harbinger, as well as their guide to the trials, Gilbert.

The final Tournament and the final battle was well-done, and I enjoyed the HEA conclusion to this series. The narration was terrific, and I encourage you to listen to the Apocalypse Core trilogy!

Ridiculous

MODERATE SPOILERS:
I returned this title because it was a cringe-fest. The system mechanics were the worst I've come across thus far in my LITRPG/Post-apocalyptic LitRPG obsession. The system involves a core that each human has after the Earth basically woke up. This core needs to be activated by gathering energy from other cores (monster or human) or meditating. However, the skills/abilities that these people need to survive in this post-apocalyptic world are completely dependent on whatever the core grants them on activation. One ability basically gained by the luck of the draw to survive monsters (human or otherwise). The main character has the ability to use his small head to borrow abilities from his harem. Every level up he has a perfect excuse to use that small head to take advantage of his harem because through the connection they go into lust frenzy. I'm not against adult scenes, but this book tries to justify orgies every chapter despite being in a post-apocalyptic environment. "I know we just met but my core is reaching for yours and if you let us 'connect' our survival rate improves". The main character just comes across as a creep to me. What type of person gets the power to encourage others through the connect of cores and logical justification to sleep with a stranger. The reason I'm obsessed with Post-apocalyptic LitRPG is because of the cool abilities and world building. However, this book really doesn't have either. It is basically about the main character's one ability that leads to a harem. Yeah, there are a few fights and trials, but it almost seems like those normal LitRPG activities are interrupting harem time.

MC is a one trick pony

The moment the characters' unique skill is mentioned, that is basically the only thing that let's his party win.

The story is bland and basically rushes everything. NOT WORTH A CREDIT

Great with a few flaws

Very enjoyable. First with the good: the book is very unique. I love the leveling system with the cores and the unique skills that everyone unlocks. The scaling is done very well and the enemies always seem like real threats. The characters are also well written. Most of the characters (even the evil ones) are good additions to the story.

Now the bad. My biggest complaint is his dog, Humphrey. He’s constantly misbehaving and causing problems. Now I love dogs but he lets his dog do whatever it wants and justified it with “that’s just him being him”. That’s not good reasoning. The only other complaint would be that the sex scenes don’t have very much detail. Other then that they’re timed well and diverse.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Good

As always getting multiple books in one is always worth it so long as the book series isn't a bad one. It has been awhile since I've read something with stat pages and I am really grateful that the narrator tends to read through them rather quickly since nothing is more irritating than an audiobook litrpg with 5 min stats page reads every half hour. As for the story itself it's nothing revolutionary but it does tell the story it wants to well enough to be enjoyable.

Not your typical post-apocalyptic story

So from a basic level, the story here revolves around the adventures of Marc (the MC), and his expanding harem of ladies trying to thrive and survive in a world gone nuts. The world's core has awakened, killed most of the population and re-created to world to allow it to evolve further. Survivors need to make it to "safe zones" and level up by killing the new horrible monsters. All while a being explains half-details about whats happening. And thats just the first 6 or so chapters.

The writing was excellent, and the world-building was immersive, with plenty of action, suspense, and horror to keep me engaged. The characters were well-developed, and I found myself invested in their fates. I especially enjoyed how the harem aspect was portrayed as a team of survivors working together, random than the normal and overly predictable "MC is the chad-iest of chads taking all that lie in-front of him"

The narrators were fantastic, with Melanie Hastings being particularly outstanding in her performance.

Overall, if you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction and don't mind some explicit content, I highly recommend Apocalypse Core. It's a well-written and engaging story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
