SO helpful with a ton of tips & tricks!

This was such an informative read. There is a lot of great advice in all kinds of situations throughout this book. Filled with easy-to-implement strategies and new ways of thinking about all things parenting.

I am definitely going to try out a lot of the suggested ways to deal with children who are acting out. Remaining peaceful and patient is a struggle for everyone, but is definitely heightened when you are a parent.

So happy I read this- it was quick, to the point, and very entertaining! The anecdotes and real-life examples made this a fun read as well as an informative one :)

What An Important Book

It is true that the saying "Hurt people, hurt people."  But to overlay that onto the parent/child relationship is revealing. The author touches on many delicate topics, including becoming honest enough to admit that I am an angry parent, managing power struggles between a parent and a child, and how to yell when your kids do small things (a clear signal of an angry parent).

The second part of the book discusses things from the child's perspective. What signals can you look for (e.g., the child saying horrible things), and what you can do about it.

This book seeks to correct a generations-long pattern of parental anger raining down on their kids, who do it to their kids, etc.  It is an important pattern to stop, and I appreciate learning to read the patterns and make different choices now with my kids. Easy to recommend.

Important and eye opening

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Sometimes it’s natural to let the emotions of certain situations take over but this book has helped me realise that it’s important to be conscious of how our children are affected by our actions and the atmosphere we create. Highly recommended audiobook

A must have!

I thought I had it all, but the one thing that overpowered me was being a parent. It is so hard to maintain your cool when you have to deal with kids' tantrums and power struggles. These would bring out the worst in any mother. After listening to this audiobook, I am so relieved. It feels like I am well-armed now to face my parental challenges. This book gives you a good understanding of parental anger and shows you how to spot your triggers. I have found the 'no-yelling and less anger checklist' very useful. I carry it with me around the house and tick it off as I go daily. I have found the techniques and resources in this audiobook very helpful. The aura around the home is very calm and peaceful as I now have a better understanding of my kids' behaviour and I am better able to manage my anger. This audiobook is a must-have for every parent.

I wish I had read this book years ago.

I wish I had read this book years ago. When my kids were little, there weren’t many resources available to parents to help with anger management. It just wasn’t talked about. Thankfully now it is.
Feeling angry and out of control is no fun. Nobody wants to be the angry person, nor do they want to have to deal with their misbehaving or angry kids.

The best way to avoid having angry outbursts is to learn to effectively deal with your own anger. Being the parent means you need to be able to regulate your own emotions so you can teach your child to do the same.

I know from experience that this is easier said than done, and that is why I liked this book! Not only is this book very motivating, it contains some excellent examples, tools and exercises. I learned how to make changes in my own mindset, and it is amazing how things around me have started to fall into place! Once you learn how to work past your own anger, you will be able to resolve with your kids peacefully.

This book is a must read for anyone who has children. We all want the best for our kids, and when we make ourselves the best version of us, we teach our kids how to be the best version of themselves as a consequence.

Excellent Family Resource

This book very relatable. I found myself sympathizing with several examples and situations presented in the book. Even if you don't believe you're an angry parent, it’s a nice guide to staying calm and collected in stressful parenting situations. Each moment of parenting is different and patience will always be tested. I highly recommend this book to help ground yourself. This guide will make a nice addition to your parenting resources. The best part of having this book is the ability to pick it up and read anytime throughout your parenting milestones.

Super Relatable

I'm a fairly content parent. I rarely, if ever, yell, and so on, but I still learned a few new tactics from this book and developed some interesting viewpoints. In my neighborhood, I manage a number of very sizable groups, and most of them are open to parents and kids. It would be unusual for a week to pass without a parent mentioning their issue with yelling at their kids; these remarks typically result from shame after doing so. This brings up the whole discussion about yelling at children, but it also just is what it is, especially in hiking groups where we literally HAVE to shout for them to hear us. I'lI include this book in my list of suggestions for other folks.

This book stands out because it clearly and creatively answers the "WHY" of shouting. It assists the reader in locating both the cause AND the cure rather than only saying "stop." By encouraging self-reflection and the ability to come up with their own solutions, this tactic gives the reader a sense of control over their circumstances.

I believe a step-by-step workbook to go along with this book as readers apply these ideas to their lives would be a terrific addition.

Last but not least, even though I don't yell, I recognized some of the suggestions and can from personal experience that they are effective. This book has almost no unrealistic elem which was a welcome surprise.

SO helpful to learn from

I grew up in a household with a lot of yelling and I want to make sure that I don't unconsciously make the same mistakes as my parents (even though I love them dearly). What I loved about this book as the explanation about why certain parenting techniques that you may not be aware you're doing are unhelpful. I think it would take a lot of self-awareness to buy this book if you are pretty angry, but just try being open to the information. You'll learn a lot and things will change for the better. I highly recommend this book.

Realistic Strategies for a happy family

No parent is perfect but sometimes it feels like everyone else must be doing a better job than you are. This book discusses when, how, and why parents lose their temper. It reminds us that we don’t have to parent as our parents did. It presents real-life situations of a child’s misbehavior or disrespect. It then acknowledges how many parents most likely would deal with the situation, but then lays out realistic, doable strategies for how to handle it without escalation. You can tell the author has been there with her kids like I have with mine. Her insight and empathy helped me to stop beating up on myself for the times when I was less than a perfect parent. More important though, this book taught me skills and strategies so that I don't repeat those same mistakes again. I've already told two other moms about this book. If your goal is a peaceful family life, then I recommend adding this book to your family library.

Great for understanding anger in the relationship

The strategies in this book just make sense.
In my personal experience I was such an angry parent with out really noticing the depth and effect on my children.
My own mother was very angry and it just transferred over to my parenting.
When I saw my daughter burst out in anger over something so small I knew it was learned behavior and it was from me.

At that point I reached out to find a better way.
Thanks to this audiobook I have a great start!

Therapy for parents

This audiobook takes the useful perspective that it is the parents who are the problem, not the kids. Yet this anger does not define who the parents are. This audiobook encourages parents to understand their own triggers, or the mechanisms of their own anger, which has something to do with the parents' upbringing and treatment by their own parents. Now having children of their own, the parents make it worse for the children and hurt the children by projecting their own frustrations and not properly understanding their children's anger. Also provided are checklists and routines parents can implement to help themselves, so they can help their children.
