Amasai Rising is an enchanting young-adult coming-of-age fantasy novel set in the Kingdom of Aythia. Azlana is a half-human, half-elf princess on the run, forced from the only home she has ever known and shouldered with the responsibility of uniting men and mystics. Can Azlana defeat the darkness? Or will its hold on her prove fatal for magic and mankind alike?

Compelling start

I enjoyed this compelling start to a new series that I think is going to be a be a mix of 'coming-of-age', world-saving, fantasy and action-adventure story. I was a little lost at first, because the story felt like it was already started, but the world- and character-building soon caught up. I am enjoying the female lead, Princess Azlana, and it's clear her journey and struggle with the darkness is just beginning. Looking forward to the rest of the story.

The narration was clear and there were no flaws in the recording. Good variation in voice for the different characters.

I received a free copy of this audiobook through StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Good story excellent premise

A good story with a excellent premise. The young lead character is very good. It is the first in the series so most of the novel is building the world and therefore there is a lot more of the tale to be told. It ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger I enjoyed the story and think it will develop into something special. The narrator is good but her voice is not to my taste, a little too breathy for me. Still I look forward to the rest of the series. I received a complimentary copy form Storyorigin and am leaving a honest voluntary review

pulls you in

Loved this book. The detail is key here in how the world was created around the charecters. Really pulled me in. Intrigue is created rapidly and Im actually desperate to hear the rest of the story soon. Narrator does a great job too.

An interesting start to this series

This book is very clearly the start of the series. The plot does not really progress much but there are a lot of interesting elements that are slotting into place. It is almost as though Stevie Rae Causey wrote this book to create the backdrop for an epic fantasy adventure and to set the characters and events in motion.

Overall I found the book very interesting but also a little melancholy. I think that is a combination of the writing style and the narration style but the melancholy vibe fit the events in the book. In fact the story left me with a lot of questions about what would happen next which, I suppose, means it was successful in achieving what it was meant to do. I am curious to see how the author will weave the various threads of this book together in the remaining books. It has a lot of promising potential!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

A Half-Fae Princess Fantasy

For the younger reader, this book has it all: a hidden princess, magical creatures, and a role in which the heroine needs to unite men and mystics in her world. For the more mature reader, all the angst became a little bit tedious. On the whole, it was a good beginning and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Brenda Scott Wlazlo's narration was fine as she provided various voices for the different characters which added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

What a great start to this series!

I was beside myself when I saw that this book was in audiobook and I could listen while I drove to my clinicals and back home. I fell in love with the characters in the prequel and I couldn't wait to see where their evolving story went.

There is sadness lingers from the prequel, but also a small bit of life goes on and you feel for the young main character. I hope I have the opportunity to listen to book 2 soon!.

Interesting first book in the series!

This is the first book in the Amasai Rising Trilogy, a young-adult coming-of-age fantasy novel This is a great introduction to the series. The characters are well developed. Azlana is a half-human, half-elf princess. She is an interesting character. The world building set in the Kingdom of Aythia is original, and engaging. The storyline is fast-paced, filled with secrets and mystery. I liked to have both POV's, from Azlana and her mother. Brenda Scott Wlazlo did an excellent job with the narration. Looking forward to listening to the next book in the series, to know what happens next. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Amasai Rising

I really enjoyed Amasai Rising and watching the journey she has begun. I started to listen to the story and the four hours just flew by. I am really looking forward to picking up the second book and watching her journey to understand and lead her people. I enjoyed the narrator and felt she did a good job with the characters.

Great fantasy book!

Amasai Rising is a unique fantasy story featuring a half-human, half-elven child that is torn between two worlds.

Although very short in length, this book packed in a lot of world building, making it a great start to a fantasy series.

Switching between Azlana’s POV and her mother’s, we got to see two sides of the same story which made for a very interesting narration.

I really enjoyed the audiobook voice as well. All of the characters were well voiced and it was easy to follow and understand, even some of the more unfamiliar terms.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I would like to continue the series.

A Captivating & Engaging Story

A captivating story that left me wanting more. I'll admit, I wasn't sure the narration was to my taste, especially during the prologue, but once the story really got going I didn't notice anymore. I loved how the story switches perspectives between the two main characters so we get both of their thoughts on what's happening. I was immediately drawn to the child and even found myself siding with her in her frustrations with her mother's choices ;). I enjoyed the characters and hope to get to see more of the various relationships and learn more about them as the story progresses. The end of this book very much left me hanging and I can't wait to get book 2 and find out what happens next. I received an audio copy from Story Origins and will be buying the rest if my library doesn't have them because I need to see/hear how the story ends.

Azlana's trial and tribulations

Azlana is a half-breed, human and Elf, being raised by her human mother but observed by the Elves. To them, she is the future ruler of all the dark species and will lead them to victory and peace. Most of the book takes place after her 10th birthday, and it's fairly harrowing with death and destruction from all sides. The Alliance is trying to fend off the evil human king and as the war escalates, so does Azlana's troubles. Ending with a cliff-hanger, it's not as satisfying as it could be.

Fantastic worldbuilding

This author and book were both new to me, and I am glad that I listened to Amasai Rising by Stevie Ray Causey. I enjoyed the book a great deal. It did take a little getting used to the POV being a little whiny, like a young child, but I think that was a purposeful choice and soon became a non-issue. The storyline has a lot of background and history woven in, sometimes done with different character’s POV, but it is skillfully woven in with the action to make a compelling story. The character development, which can make or break a story for me, was well written.
It’s interesting that the narrator is able to do such a good job of sounding like a whining child. I look forward to reading more.
This is clearly written as Book one in a series as there is a lot of building in this story. We quickly start to develop an understanding of the main character but the mother is a slower build. Stevie Ray Causey does a great job of giving a us a quick amount of background to locate us in a setting, but then steadily world builds with more history and greater understanding of society.
I absolutely recommend this as YA fantasy and would feel comfortable offering it in my middle school classroom or any public library.

Great start to a series!

Azlana is half-elf and half-human, though she has been raised entirely among humans, with her heritage hidden from her until such time as it must be revealed. Though she has already passed the age of Awakening for young elves, the age when they gain all the knowledge of their ancestors, the elves are still placing immense pressure upon her to lead them into battle against the dark ones, because she is to be their queen. However, unbeknownst to any of them, Azlana has a stowaway in her mind, a spirit who whispers dark things to her and preys upon her insecurities - Anhedonia: The Bringer of Sorrow. Will she be able to rise up and meet her destiny or will she succumb to the whispers and fall to Darkness?

This was a really good book. The beginning of a trilogy, this book introduces us to all the main characters and establishes who's who, while also engaging in some wonderful world-building. Because this is the first book of the series and there are many things to establish, it does take a few chapters to really get into the story, but before long it has grabbed ahold of you and you don't want to put it down. The author weaves together the story through chapters that alternate between Azlana and her mother, Kala - each chapter is told from the first-person perspective but it is easy to keep them separate.

The narrator, Brenda Scott Wazlo, does a masterful job with the narration. Her voice is soothing and easy to listen to. This is the second book of hers that I have listened to and the only real issue is that she reads more slowly than I would. However, that is so subjective that it's hard to please everyone. For me, having the playback on 1.25 was perfect for me.

I look forward to reading/listening to the next book in the series, especially with the cliffhanger that this book ended on. (It's a trilogy, there're going to be cliffhangers. If you don't like cliffhangers at the end of a book, read a standalone novel.)

A great start to a great series!

A great start to a great series! Stevie Rae Causey did a great job developing the MC, world, plot, and setting us up for the full series. A great fantasy for all ages. Audio Version: I have never listened to anything narrated by Brenda Scott Wlazlo before but she did a great job with each voice.
