About this listen
The first three interconnected stand-alone fairy tale retellings from the Four Kingdoms series
Book 1 - The Princess Companion: A Retelling of The Princess and the Pea: This retelling of the classic fairy tale The Princess and the Pea reimagines the risks and rewards that come when one royal family goes searching for a true princess.
Book 2 - The Princess Fugitive: A Reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood: In this reimagining of the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, the girl in the red hood has been swallowed up by the wolf and must decide if she's willing to fight for her freedom, no matter the cost.
Novella 2.5 - Happily Ever Afters: A Reimagining of Snow White and Rose Red: Sarah and Evelyn have already risked everything to help Ava win a crown. But they soon learn that a coronation is a beginning, not an ending. Not everyone in Rangmere is happy to see the young queen on the throne, and intrigue and danger lurk all around.
The cousins find themselves fighting not only for their new kingdom but also for their own survival in the royal court. When a new threat emerges, the two girls must defeat it to both save the crown and secure their own happily-ever-afters.

Not What I Expected
I really enjoyed this. The main characters run throughout the 4 stories which ensures a smooth transition into next. There's just a sort of a nod to the fairytale stories we know but I love the author's take on them. Give it a try, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Great Stories
Good narration, complex, interesting stories. The characters learn and grow and don't just surmount odds. Will listen again.

Really enjoyable
This is a fun series. An interesting nod to the old fairy tales but with a new twist and with some strong female lead characters.
Well narrated too - just the right emphasis and easy to tell the characters by the voices used.
Enjoyed it so much I’m moving straight to the next series.

A great take on classic fairytales.
The plot:
I really like the strong female characters and how they are so funny, polite and kind. Melanie Cellier has done a fantastic job presenting the classic fairy tales we all know as reimbursed interesting, new stories. I generally only listen to books more than 7 hours and these three were all quite long which was good.
The narration:
Esther Wane did a great job narrating this book. She really emphasises the right parts and I think that she really suits the characters that she voices. Esther does just the right voice for each character and I really enjoyed the book.
I can’t wait to read the rest of this series and I am so glad it’s on the plus catalogue.

Changing accents
Although well read, when the characters emerge in following stories their accents change from foreign sounding to English sounding
