Summary
While a moon hurtles toward certain destruction, taking with it a Weyland-Yutani bioweapons lab, talks on a nearby colony could lead to all-out war among the colonies.
Hygeia, an outer rim colony, is doomed as the moon on which it was built hurtles toward an inevitable collision with the dead planet Hephaestus. When a distress signal arrives from a Weyland-Yutani biowarfare outpost near the colony, a desperate plan is launched to evacuate the trapped scientists and colonists. Their destination: LV-846, a key United Americas colony where high-level talks are scheduled to address the galaxy-wide hostilities between the colonies. Once there, the evacuees, including a contingent of Colonial Marines, discover a plot that could plunge the colonies into all-out war. Their only hope may be an alliance with the deadliest ally imaginable.

Best one yet!
I've definitely enjoyed this book out of the recent series the most, it's really got back to the creepy horror that the Aliens exude and the graphic violence that they bring with them, the story brings a new and unexpected twist. I love it!!

Far too predictable
I know there's a pretty formulaic pattern to these books, but so far each has had elements of originality. This though picks through, and rehashes elements, and not even the best ones. Worse it uses the super science idea to make changes that can break the whole internal logic of these stories and as ever depends on apparently smart and experienced characters then doing the most stupid things - not heard of an intercom to alert people !

It’s … ok
As a huge aliens fan I thought I’d give this a go. Some reviews says it’s poor and others good. I would say it was a little sedentary and the story didn’t really do much for me. Some good ideas but again just a blast and save routine.

Happy enough.
no the best but certainly not the worst. its got what you need, marines looking for a fight. scientists and a global conglomerate that should know better by now and xenomorphs hell bent on killing. it's even pulled from the new films and references the builders and they're toxic creations. I'm not mad I got this.

Can’t listen to the end
Starts off alright, gets interesting and then flops massively at the end resolution by having the characters do completely irrational and stupid things that shatter any illusion they are real people. Shame

A bit generic... But not bad
I love the Alien franchise, and this book tries to give you all the things you want in an Alien novel. Aliens, scientists, marines on an remote planet trying to survive etc...
However, I felt like the writing was a little lazy and derivative in places. Alien is meant to keep you constantly on the edge of your seat and wondering who's going to get nibbled on next, but the writing took out most of the tension by making character decisions overly stupid and predictable to the point that the Alien may as well be wearing a scream ghost face costume. I facepalmed so hard in places I probably looked like I had been taken out by a face hugger.
The writer also doesn't build up enough tension IMO. Alien is meant to be uncomfortable, almost to the point you want to stop and go do something else, but just before you do, the tension breaks and you are either jump scared into ER... or, you are left nervously laughing as it was something silly, like a cat or some loose electrical cable... and then you are jump scared into ER. Needless to say, I didnt feel the need for a medical professional to give me a paper bag and tell me to breath slow, even breaths.
Narator was excellent though and saved the day on this one. It's more of an easier read/listen than some of the other books, but I did still enjoy it, so I would still recommend.

Meh. Waste of a credit.
“I’m a big fan of this series,” is an understatement.
If there is another “Aliens” book done by Dirk Maggs, I’ll grab it, he’s the gold standard. This story isn’t terrible, it’s just not “new.” In fact, some sections had me wondering if I had pushed a button for something already in my library, it was that much of a retread.
There is a concept brought up that’s interesting, but then doesn’t do anything with it. That alone wanted me to return the book. It might be picked up in another story, but I can’t say I would care after throwing a good idea away. The ending is mostly anti-climactic after a good slow burn, & I hated the book for that.
I get it is supposed to be…something else, but so much was wasted to get there, it wasn’t worth it.
I suppose if it had been a screenplay, it might have played out cool visually, but that’s never going to happen, & does nothing for canon.
This story just feels like a paint-the-numbers setup, a filler entry if this were a tv show. You could skip it & miss out on nothing. I feel for the author making a payday. There is actually some good *prose* in here, but it isn’t sustained; whether by editing or the author’s (in)ability, IDK.
The performance is fine, & while it depends, there is something that feels more attuned when it’s a female narrator for “Aliens” content.
Previous commenters have stated this is a return to form from the prior ones going all “woke.” Firstly, this is not a great entry, so I discount that part entirely. Secondly, I honestly have no idea what that “wokeness” critique is even supposed to mean. That there’s a female character who kicks a**?
If that is the baseline for triggering their “wokeness” angst, should we tell them the original trilogy is the template for the most bad-a*** SciFi hero in recent pop-culture history (who just “happens” to be a woman)?
Fellas, take a chill pill & deal.
There have been some absolutely fantastic stories told in some of the earlier books outside of the film, but are canon.
For the LIFE OF ME, I cannot understand why they have not been optioned. There is absolutely KILLER blockbuster material that gives this tired franchise the kick in the a** it needs to be mind-blowingly awesome, while scary AF.
If you want to know what I mean, check out “The Cold Forge,” but fair warning “woke” triggered blokes: the hero is a female with…some physical concerns. That might just make someone triggered by “wokeness” go positively apoplectic.
On the other hand, if you can “handle” a woman in a compromised physical & emotional state, somehow triumphing over men with god complexes & no humanity, whilst engineered Aliens run amok, by her sheer strength of will & intellectual brilliance against inhuman odds, then it might be your jam.

Finally Back To The Actual Story
life long alien/xeno here. the last few books were to say it bluntly just awful. social justice garbage. ITS ALIEN! Keep it about the bug and not social justice garbage.
The book starts fast and keeps a fun but not overwhelming pace going.. Narrative and narrator is excellent. No spoilers here but if you were holding out until they got back to the story this is the book for you!

A Tour De Force!
This is possibly my favorite of the recent Aliens novels. I have throughly enjoyed the creation of overreaching political and sci-fi threats that have started to be included in this generation of Alien novels. In some novels, however, the political message can drown out otherwise very fun ideas that exist only in this universe. In Enemy of My Enemy, Sangiovnai has nailed the most wonderful combination of sci-fi suspense and, political intrigue, and a horrifying image of body horror creating a frightening flourish for the perfect organism!
The characters introduced feel very complex and fleshed out, far beyond the typical stereotypes of other sci-fi novels of this kind. The exploration of both the Alien and human motivations are some of the best in novels and rival some of the most intense moments from the Alien movies. With loving reverence to the terror and style of classic Alien while incorporating all the best parts of the recent series of books, this is a magnificent leap into the dark!

Not a very well written
the central conceit of the story is that radios do not exist in this universe. Seriously they are never discussed or used. So much of the story relies on the complete lack of modern technology its as if this was written as an old west novel with aliens and then workshopped into the Aliens universe.
Spoilers:
Ok from the very start it would appear that the synthetics have no ability to communicate wirelessly, That colonial marines have no radios, that there is no such thing as security cameras, central control or locking doors. All throughout the story there are places where you almost want to scream "use a f*ng radio" From the grunts in the hall to the colony communicating to the pickup ship.
Hell even the technology base of the universe seems to be backwards where people have paper documents, cubbies for physical deliveries, data that has to be hand carried or that no one has a phone or any wireless device and there is no "interference" trope used, just no mention of them at all.
This story got so shoehorned in to the Alien universe that the publisher really should have demanded their money back.

FINALLY BACK TO ALIENS
Finally, after 4 terrible books , we are back to what aliens should be
Not some SJW trans garbage , but an actual aliens book. The story makes sense , the strong female characters make sense , they are not just shoe horned into a storm to fulfill some weirdo Leftist wet dream , they are actually thought out smart actors.Cudos to the writer , and the narrator. You both did a great job and I look forward to your next novel
Highly recommend

Thoroughly enjoyed.
Hit the ground running. Enjoyed the tie-in to the Alien RPG lore. Some small but enticing twists and turns building on the Alien universe 8 years after the Haleys Hope 'incident'.

Okay so...
What do i even say- by now something is really wrong with the Alien/Aliens universe series of books coming out lately that has me very worried for the future and now im starting to really be weary of any new book i see.
So lets begin: Wow-
Yeah no i don't believe in any way the author has really had any in touch basis with anything [Alien] and there is so much missing here that i think they were trying to go for a haunted house approach than in universe world building that left me so bored most of the time i ACTUALLY had to restart the audio book several times just to try and remember what the hell was going on??? mind i listen while i work and i can remember three other audio book/dramas to a T compared to most of the last sets here recently that a lot of the alien books right now are forgettable trash; cash grabbers that aren't whole heartedly in for the story more than most of them feel like fanfiction writers got an OK to proceed writing whatever they feel like now.
Story or lack there of is trying to build off the recent synopsis of [Black goo, World destroyers, Covenant introduction sub--stories] but never really does anything with them rather than using them as a trope more than a continuance to push the narrative of this books well...whatever you call this, don't love any of these characters they're in an Alien novelization you should know by now there is no point.
Spoilers:
Now for me personally, i don't get why some choices were made here and pushed but i feel it was more for shock value than for anything else- why kill off everyone? why; why the child, why the protags if you got them that far? the message broadcast meant nothing- i mean what is going on in this book? do all these authors talk to eachother to hand off the next story to one another like passing around a notebook and being "well this is what i did keep the story in tact but add what you think is cool and keep passing it on!" kind of approach recently is really....starting to get on my nerves personally, like a poster above me said-
just read Phalanx and be satisfied....Cold forge is my personal second, third being Prototype then Infiltrator and that is all and unfortunate too, because so much can be done in this world but they keep giving it to people who can't write anything more than fanfiction, can i copy your homework; yeah but change it so it doesn't look like you copied me; okay kind of people.

A solid Aliens story
This story had all of the classic Alien tropes - hard sci-fi, body horror, corporate greed and a capable female protagonist in the form of Siobahn. Narration was good, Shiromi Arserio has a wonderful voice. A worthy addition to Alien lore.

Better but still not like originals
This way way better as far as not brining woke politics into the Alien universe. Story was okay. I just could not get into. The narration was terrible. Heard better from narrator before or this type of topic (Alien) just needs a more dynamic narrator. I do miss the operas.
