I wondered what my life would have been like if we had never moved to the ho-dunk town of Spring Valley, Illinois. Sure the internet service was splotchy, there was nothing but miles of wheat fields, and I probably wouldn't be faced with death at every corner. My only neighbor in this god-forsaken town was...well there really was only one to describe him, hot as hell. With his sinful dark looks, unusually silver eyes, and kissable lips, there was something about him that was more than meets the eye.

Summary
All Airel ever wanted was to be normal, to disappear into the crowd. But bloodlines can produce surprises, like an incredible ability to heal. Then there's Michael Alexander, the new guy in school, who is impossibly gorgeous... and captivated by her. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she can hear the sound of pages turning, and another, older story being written. It is the story of an ancient family, of great warriors, of the Sword of Light, and the struggle against an evil so terrible, so far-reaching, that it threatens everything. Airel knew change would be an inevitable part of life. But can she hold on when murder and darkness begin to close in and take away everything she loves? Will she have what it takes when the truth is finally revealed?

Why only book one???
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book but am really disappointed that the others in the series are not available as audio books. This is starting to become a common theme with audible and/or publishers - I had the same disappointment with the mortal instruments series having to pay significant amounts of money to get the final two books on CD. If a book is one of a series please provide all in audio format or none at all to prevent such disappointment.
As to the story is makes a refreshing change from the formulaic structure of most YAF.

Why did I waste my time?
I have over 100 audible audiobooks, but this is one of two that were so bad I couldn't even finish it. I got to the beginning of chapter 18 and had to ask myself why I kept hoping it would get better (I'd given it 18 chapters after all!), as it already made me upset that I'd listen this long. It was very cleche from the beginning. The "voice" (as in not the actual voice of the actress reading to us) of the main character didn't sound like a teen, but more like an author trying to sound like a teen and failing. It was really unbelievable: the reactions of the character, the terrible scene when she is at the doctor, the abismal scene where the killer is at her house & she doesn't get help from a neighbour even though she escapes to safety into their back yard, but then goes back past the killer & into her house & THEN goes out to get the letter the killer puts in her mailbox in the dead of night, doesn't wake up any one in her own house, is terrified by the letter, then goes to sleep. Not to mention the scene where she almost bleeds to death, doesn't wake up her parents, & then goes to sleep as if it was nothing. The author has tried to throw in some romace and friendship for the main charactor, but it's patchy, unbelievable, and very confusing- shoved in weird places, more of an afterthought than an actual part of the plot line. I'm dyslexic, but I'm also an award winning author & I have to exceeding hate someting to give it a bad review because I know how hard that is for an author, but I feel cheated out of my money, and don't want anyone else to feel like this. By the way, the only other one star review I've ever given on was a selfpublished book on here that was rediculous. I really love audible, as with my slow reading I just couldn't keep up with current books without it, but I'm really disappointed in this audiobook.

Better than expected
Would you listen to Airel again? Why?
Probably not, but I have so many books I haven't listened to yet it's vary unlikely I'd listen to vary many of my books more than once.
What other book might you compare Airel to and why?
Twilight
Which scene was your favorite?
Sorry no spoilers here
Any additional comments?
At first the book comes across as another teen girl angst book. I.E. Twilight. But it gets away from that to some degree and has some unique scenes. I was surprised that even though the book inched an excerpt from the next book it is the only one of the series on audible. Seeing as the book was released in 2012 I find it surprising the second book didn't get written or released if it was.

You have to get past the goofy beginning....
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I suppose. The story drew me in (after I got past the extreme eye-rolling during the first part of the book). The main character is so... pre-teen? in her behavior that I just couldn't relate at all. I don't remember ever behaving in such an immature matter toward boys. It's just not very believeable. But I suppose the author was attempting to point out (very quickly, I might add... another point to struggle with) that Airel had some growing up to do and she had to grow up quickly. If that wasn't the authors point, then I suppose he may not know much about young women (a very plausible possibility). Still, once I got past that part of the book, the overall story was good.
If you’ve listened to books by Aaron Patterson before, how does this one compare?
never have in the past
What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?
LOVE Phil Gigante... who has a wonderfully melodic voice. In fact, I found this book mainly because I was looking for books narrated by Phil Gigante :)
Could you see Airel being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Perhaps a Lifetime or Hallmark mini-series. I could see a young Shiri Appleby (Roswell) playing the part of Airel.
Any additional comments?
It's worth listening to... just get past the first half. I imagine Airel is more mature in latter books in the series (I hope). BTW... where are the other books in the series? They are available as Kindle ebooks, but not on audible? The narrators are wonderful.

MICHEAL AUDIOBOOK NOW. great story. well written
Where does Airel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
as far as the production of the audiobook, and the actors, its #1... as the story and book, and characters, its pretty high but not #1.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Airel?
When she was stabbed and thought she would be decapitated and said "i wonder how long it takes for your mind to realize that your heads been cut off" or something along those lines, was epic, and at the most amazing time for her personality to shine through.
Which scene was your favorite?
The one I just described, or when Krios in the past faught the seer with his friends, and small army of the heavenly host.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did... so yes, but im VERY VERY MAD, finished this book, and Micheal, book 2 (or 3... i don't even know at this point) IS NOT ON AUDIOBOOK....
Any additional comments?
audible, I have bought like 100-300$ in books through you guys, yet somehow over 3 years have passed since Airel was released and you have not produced Micheal or just aren't selling it anymore? please FIX THIS NOW. I could make a passable audiobook for under 1000$ in a week easily. So audible please dont let down a loyal customer and fan.

Good concept, boring in reality
Would you try another book from Aaron Patterson and/or Phil Gigante?
Yes, I thought they both were great narrators!
Has Airel turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, but I didn't like how the main character in this book acted all gushy just after meeting a guy and thinking about him non-stop. The middle of this book was really slow for me, I just wanted to get to the end. And the end was very anti-climatic I felt. I wouldn't recommend this book.
Which scene was your favorite?
I liked some of the battle scenes from Kreos' (not sure how to spell that because its an audiobook..) point of view.
Do you think Airel needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I wouldn't be interesting in reading it.

GREAT!!!! BOOK !!! Cmon with book two big dog.
What did you love best about Airel?
Her innocence and her ability to Learn and love with everything going on.
What other book might you compare Airel to and why?
It reminds me of Twilight without the obvious things to come in other books. I have to keep listening to the first book so I don't forget the twists and turns. . .
Which character – as performed by Phil Gigante – was your favorite?
the shadow Angel. He keeps it funny through the worst possible Times.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A mix of humanity and Angel blood makes the best weapon against Evil.
Any additional comments?
Your killing me with waiting on book two guys.

Waste of a Credit
This was a disappointment. The plot was a good idea. However, the writing was juvenile, and the dialogue was just as childish. It makes me wonder how old the author is. It reminds me of a book I wrote when I was 12. Additionally, while Phil Gigante was great, Natalie Ross was pretty terrible. She made a teenage girl from Idaho sound like a whiny 30-year-old from Texas. I listened to the whole thing hoping that it would get better, and because I paid for it, but it never improved. I wouldn't recommend this and will not be continuing with the saga.

Enjoyable read
Would you consider the audio edition of Airel to be better than the print version?
I think everything is better in audio
What did you like best about this story?
I thought it was different from all the other YA novels out there.
What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?
Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross could read the phone book and I would listen to it.
Any additional comments?
Not in my "best" category but it def was an enjoyable read.
