Summary

Brent Weyland was the life of the party until an injury ended his hockey career. Now he's retreated alone to a lakefront house, trying to make sense of a life and body that doesn't feel like his anymore.

Jon Norquist was happily married right up until he wasn't. Now a single father in his 40s, he's trying to figure out what comes next. In the meantime, he pours his heartache and regret into the lyrics he sings for the wine bar crowd a couple of nights a week.

When a friend coaxes Brent out for a night of wine and music, he puts Brent and Jon on a collision course. Their chemistry is instantaneous. Jon gives Brent's battered body a much-needed remedial lesson in pleasure. And Brent gives Jon a reason to smile again.

Multiple reasons, actually. Neither man wants anything serious, but love has a habit of showing up whether it's welcome or not. No matter how hard they try, the two can't help having feelings for each other, even as life continues to throw them curveballs.

But they've both got baggage to unpack and hurt to move past, and if they can't leave their pasts in the past, they might just miss out on an amazing future.

Contains mature themes.

Dramatic life with hea

Here's a story that proves that listening to a father who does not have your interests at heart does you no good at all.Meet the love of your life and listen to a friend who loves you as a friend and gets you on the right path and all will be well and the narrator is great.

Wonderful story

Absolutely wonderful story. It was a little bit angsty but I lved every word. The representation was great and I adored both main characters. Great narrators. They really brought the characters to life.

Love is really love.

Brent has lost his 'previous' life and now has to deal with chronic pain and a detoriating body. Protted by his best friend to join him on a night out. He sees a singer songwriter and is immediately attracted. Jon is a single dad, and massage therapist. These men have both lost a lot and are working on a relationship. I really enjoyed this book.
Narration is well done by both narrators 4,5 * both narrators are complementary to each other.

A story about overcoming life and finding happiness

Did think the storyline would affect me as much as it did. It’s strange how two people can both think they’re not good enough for the other person? But also, that’s probably the most realistic thing I’ve ever read. Too often we find excuses to not date someone, to not fall in love with someone, to not stay with someone. But those excuses are just our own insecurities. This story explores all of that in a really frank and satisfying way.

Amazing narration, good book, but way to much details

The story is a really lovely one but the author struggles with too much details - I didn’t want to listen soooo much about the guys dogs, or a whole dialogue with the doctor, if someone was to edit the book more critically it would have been amazing.

Narrators were amazing however the Indian accent felt in bad taste.

I Really Enjoyed this Book

I listen to a lot of books & I can honestly say that this is by far one of my favourite books.
I totally related to Brett. Having had my life turned upside down, being diagnosed with an illness, when my life was spent high on adrenaline.
The author has done their research, so I applaude them for it.
The narrators did a perfect job of telling the story.
I will be listening to it again at some point.
I would definitely recommend it.

Just beautiful 💕

Narration was spot on. The characters were just so lovely. Very descriptive story telling that had you immersed in Brent and Jon’s world.
I’m listening to the series in order, started with Roommate. They’re all good but this is one of my favourites.

abusive father takes the front seat.

I really liked the chemistry and personalities of both main characters, and how they found a way to have sexual fulfillment. But the longer I listened the constant mentioning of pain became repetitive and annoying. The couple was close early on in the story so the drama had to come from a side character. I quickly had enough of the narcissistic father bullying his son.
