Summary

Henry never realized he was special. Sure, he’s an engineer who served his country, but when the virus hit, he found himself alone in a nearly empty world.

That’s the key, though: nearly empty.

There’s no one left who has the technical know-how to make the world run again...except for Henry. For humanity to survive, he will have to rebuild society out of the motley crew of survivors. It might be impossible, but at the same time, Henry has always loved a challenge.

Mediocre survivalist porn

Weird. This is the second series I’ve listened to where the male survivor ends up shacking up with a couple of hot girls and having a threesome. The other one was a zombie apocalypse theme but I can’t be bothered to check if it’s the same author. Apart from that, the plot drips along ok and is fairly easy listening. A few glaring plot holes bug me though, and the aforementioned pandering to survivalist male teens.

Good story and not overzealous

The plot was great and different to the usual apocalyptic books I have read (200 since covid) and was not packed with action like many so it felt a little more real and not so hyped up. I struggled with that at first but then realised it was more like reality so enjoyed it after all. What let the book down is the author allowing his own sexual fantasies into the book and not having any insight into women. Older women might well be excited by open relationships and 3somes but young girls are rarely into this as thry seek the safety of stable relationships. This guy is suddenly surrounded by young women who are suggesting friends with benefits is good with them if the guy wants to play the field and encourage it with all females in the book listing over him like he is the last man on earth, which we find out he isn't. That ruined the book fir me as it suddenly snapped me back I to reality and all escapism was lost. Author is weak and needs to keep that stuff in his bedroom and in hand rather than in his books. The sex scenes however were written really well and with good taste, with respectful tasteful language and left me hot under thr collar a few times but the FWB thing was just so unrealistic it pulled the rug out a little. I still recommend the book however and plan to buy the 2nd in the series. Am hoping there is a little less 'HE said,' 'I said', 'SHE said' in the next one!

Totally ruined with porn.

Sounded great for a while until it was totally ruined by becoming overly and totally unnecessarily crude and rude. Certainly couldn't listen through that.

Porn fiction?

I enjoy post apocalyptic survival stories but this just turned into a three way porn fantasy and ruined it

Tedious narration

If you like Odd Billy Todd you may enjoy this book but for it’s a man writing a story of what he would do after an apocalypse, unsurprisingly he is a hero and the women are just falling at his feet. To add to that the narration just awful

Power gaming at it's best

Naive, unrealistic, main character cannot go I've struggled to understand the actual struggles of main character. Because frankly there non. Very shallow in terms of emotions.

Never really gets going

I thought this sounded interesting from the synopsis, but it never really goes anywhere. I kept expecting something big to happen and it never did…there were lots of ways the story could have developed but it was just really mundane. There was a random chapter told from another character’s perspective which didn’t fit the rest of the narrative. And very unrealistic relationships between the male lead and the women he meets!

I definitely won’t bother with the rest of the series.

Cringe worthy pervert's fantasy

I actually made it almost 5 hours through this post-apoc-porn. I spent 23 years in the military, so I'm the farthest from prude or goody-goody, but this story is bad enough to make a war hardened Veteran blush. The non porn parts are corny at best. This "author" should stick to one category or the other: romance/soft porn or post apocalypse. Maybe he could hire Fabio for his book covers. He should personally refund every single person he suckered into paying for this sh*t under the false pretense of a survival/post-apoc book. I hope he spends my money wisely, because he will never get another red cent from this sucker.
As for the narrator? He should take notes from Ray Porter or Christian Rummel. His horribly forced voice inflections made the sex scenes that much more nauseating and cringy. Listening to that voice say words like "cl*t", "p**sy", & well...you get the point. I was literally close to gagging a couple times until I mercifully stopped it for good. He sounds like the guy that plays Jamie's real dad on Yellowstone. Great actor, but i don't want to hear him narrate an explicit sex scene. Just imagine that guy telling a story about getting road head, or his hard on. Where's the puke emoji?
I am absolutely shocked by seeing how well this thing is rated!

Harem aspect is not for me. Otherwise very good

While I understood this was going to have some explicit sexual circumstances, I did not appreciate how much of the story would be deviated to the mantasy. It is not for me. Otherwise, I had a high opinion of the broader post-apocalyptic narrative. If you are fine with the mantasy, you will enjoy this book. If not, you will not.

PHANTASIES

I guess everyone has phantasies, these must be the author's phantasies - to be drop dead gorgeous, with a body to kill for, good boy charm - you get the drift , AND more women survivors - all good looking in one way or another - than men.

Only in a man’s dreams!!!!!

Who turns a deadly virus, losing all of their family and friends, being surrounded by the stench of dead decaying bodies and the end of life as we know it , into a sexual fantasy???? Only a man. Sex with an 18 year old cheerleader was bad enough but sex with two women who totally agree to share this Dodge Truck driving he-man pushed me totally over the edge. Total garbage!!

Wanted to like but ultimately did not,

Minor Spoilers,

Honestly really only one thing turned me off on this book and it was the character Jackie and her beliefs on the future. She tells the MC she expects to be with multiple guys to have babies from them all, or in other words to be a baby factory. I understand her reasoning behind that but it would never work given how few people remain. In order for a breeding program to work the remaining people worldwide would all have to gather. Additionally if they don't all gather they don't have enough people for all the women to be with child all the time and maintain the home. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of the livestock, farming and hunting are just a few examples of the work needing done daily, It will take many hands, both male and female hands in order to maintain the homestead.

That said book 2 is about a group of people taking women to use as breeding stock. This is exactly what Jackie.said she was ok with. However the MC and his women including Jackie are set against that which will end up causing a conflict between the 2 groups.

In theory a breeding program would be ideal to help populate the world again. Sadly there has to be enough people to diversify and given the scenario there just is not enough people for a program like that to work. Let's not forget the human factor, emotions! We know by our past arranged marriage don't really work. You really think children will fall into line and continue the breeding program?

Jackie and the premise of book 2 is just a major turn off so I won't be purchasing book 2 or continuing with this series.

How bad can it be?

After reading other reviews I thought, "How bad can it be?" Turns out, very bad.

The writing style and narration were both good. There was so much potential with the story lines and main characters. But the main character's internal monologue was cringe.

As a member of the Armed Forces I have met hundreds of men like this character. The "Alpha" males, who have no idea what it actually means to be a leader. They join the military to "serve their country" then get out after a few years because they can't handle the realities of being in the military. These same men drive expensive trucks (in this novel a Dodge Ram) with every trim known to man to compensate for their small "package."
This novel reads like an inexperienced teenage boy, wet dream, idea of post apocalyptic fiction.

Crap

9hrs and 31 minutes of garbage. All this book boiled down to was the apocalypse making all of these women (Young college student, a former female marine, and it even eluded to the doctors wanting to jump his bones) horny for some lame dude who lived with his Grandma until she died from a virus.... by the end of the book the main clown (Henry I think?) was a polygamist .... There was very little info or story about actually surviving and it was made to sound like this was the best thing that ever happened to this dude... He was truck shopping, corvette shopping and doing whatever he wanted. Having sex with one woman while the other is away and ..... ugh forget it.... its horrible....9h 31m I wish I could get back.... I do, however, like the narration of Ryan West....just feel bad he has to read such crap for a living....

Ladies Beware

This book was going along great until I figured out it was written by a man with fantasies of having a harem. It wasn't good enough to have an 18 year old cheerleader (so cliché of a fantasy), later in the book he was being shared by two women, that is when I gave up on the book. The story would have been great had it not included a pig of a man and women with no self respect.

Just, no

This book is so shallow. Not even just the weird sex parts, but the story itself completely lacks depth. Everything works out absolutely perfectly for the MC in every situation. It's a totally unbelievable story line.
*Spoilers below*
You can't be in a roll over accident, exploded by a semi, shot full of steroids, get blown up by two grenades and then have crazy sex barely 24 hours later.
And don't get me started on the "so hot no one can keep their hands off me" writing style.
I feel so bad for the narrator for the cringe worthy sex scenes and poor dialogue he had to read.

book sucks. some guys wet dream

dudes wet dream of having the best and forced survival with a cheerleader. i mqde myself to listen and its just a bad romance novel. 4 hours left in it and i cant. You know when your eating pistachios, and you save the shit looking ones for the end? You got the last one, and you bite into it, and its like a tree shit in your mouth. No more pistachios to clear that taste out, it is what it is, and you wash your mouth out with a drink. Thats pretty much how i feel with this book, been listening to a lot of books, and then burrrap, right on the tounge.
