Summary

As America's first foreign missionary, Adoniram Judson thirsted to see the Good News brought to the shrouded land of Burma. His thirst would be quenched, but at an unimaginable price. Adoniram survived starvation, imprisonment, and torture both on land and at sea only to watch his family, coworkers, and friends succumb to death.

In spite of heartache and depression, Adoniram Judson translated the entire Bible into Burmese. To this day his work remains the only Burmese translation of the Bible available. Adoniram and his first wife Ann were the spark that spread the fire of the Gospel into Burma, and their evident love for the Burmese people is a compelling story of unswerving dedication and sacrifice.

Sad

This is not a book for a young Christian it left me pondering was it worth all those deaths and would it have been less selfish for him to have remained single on the other hand all his wives fulfilled a purpose even though he lead each one to suffering and death, but the children that survived lived useful lives. To answer my own questions I googled Christianity in Burma and is the second largest religion in that country. So without a doubt a Hero, but not an enjoyable book

What a life!

Pleasant narration.. amazing biography.. such different times.. bringing the gospel to such inhospitable places.. I liked it a little extra because my wife did a mission trip a few years back to Birma.. 200 years later ^_^
