Summary

On a sweltering July morning in rural Tennessee, 50-year-old Rebecca Reynolds visits the family farm, where she literally stumbles across the mutilated bodies of her parents and younger sister, a sister who had spent life in a wheelchair after a birth fraught with complications.

Rebecca's first thought is to call 911. Her second is to find her estranged sister, Lena, who was disowned by the family years before. Her third is to wonder how long it will be before Lena is arrested for the murder of their family.

As the police gather evidence pointing to Lena, the sisters turn to attorney Brian Stone. Convinced of Lena's innocence, he agrees to take on the case. But in a family ripped apart by dysfunction, is anyone truly innocent?

Murder mystery

This was an interesting listen and kept me guessing for a time about who the killer was. The plot and characters were well written and the world building good. I thought the narrator did a good job of both the text and the production.

A woman misunderstood

A great read with a twist, excellent narration by Michelle Babb. There may be more about this book revealed in Book 3?

Family drama... misunderstood

I quite liked this book. I found it engaging and I was excited to read it again. While I had guessed who 'dun-it' 2/3 into the book, it was still interesting to see how the story weaved together. I am a new listener to the author, but I definitely will check out her other books as well. I liked the fact that this book was a standalone, with reference to the previous book. So you didn't need to read book 1 to understand this book... and I prefer that in a book series! I liked the format of the book: Each chapter dedicated to each character from their POV- including court transcripts. The narrator spoke clearly and had different voices for each character, so you could tell who was speaking if you missed hearing the chapter title.
Yes, I do recommend this book.
I voluntarily gave my honest opinion in exchange for a free copy of the book. I will definitely read this one again.

Interesting and engaging

I enjoyed listening to this book a lot. It was interesting and held my attention from the first paragraph. I really enjoyed listening to the narrator read the story. She does a great job. I thought the characters were believable and had depth. Each of them were fighting their own demons and each of them had things they had to get over. The different twists in the plot were interesting. I thought some of the characters were duplicitous and you are not quite sure you ever truly know them. The plot moved along at a steady enough pace and was engaging and easy to follow. I would recommend this book and narrator to others.

Excellant

I loved listening to Michelle Babb, perfect narrator for this great thriller

This is a gripping thriller , after finding her parents and sister murdered and her other sister is a suspect. The characters were well developed and believable. I want to say so much more , but will give away the plot.

You will not be disappointed .

Another great book I almost didn’t listen to!

Lena was always the black sheep of the family. She was a known prostitute, drug attic and all around ne’er-do-well, but now she’s there accuse murderer. Unexpectedly her sister Rebecca the only survivor tells her they will get through it, but will Rebecca stand by her side when she finds out not even Lena knows if she’s the murderer and better yet If she’s not the murderer what do there when the murders happened? So many questions that not even Lena has the answer to, but unbeknownst to everyone including her lawyer she thinks she has an ace up her sleeve. Is it enough to save her? Will Rebecca still be by her side when this is over? Rebecca is Lenas Older sister, she’s Miss reliable, who comes home every weekend to help her Dead with the chores on the farm and never missed a weekend. She also grew up helping and loving her handicap sister Kayla she was the perfect daughter as opposed to Lena.

Sometimes the worst thing in the world can bring the best thing that ever happened into our lives. That happens for one of the sisters, but which one. This book with though, so good! There is a twist at the end even if you guessed 20 times you will not gusset. I love this book and almost didn’t hear of it and I’m so thankful I did. I highly recommend this book if you love fiction in a good court trial You’ll love this book.

Family tragedy or a strong motive

This is the first book by this author I have listened to but I enjoyed it and will keep an eye out for any more of her books, especially if it continues the story. The story is told by three characters and is about how each of them deals or reacts to a brutal killing of a family. Two are sisters and the eldest one finds the body of there parents and middle sister, the younger sister is the one accused of the killings and the third person is the lawyer hired to defend her. The story is quite slow to begin with but that is because it is explaining the reason for the kills to have taken place and building up the tension. It also contains a lot of transcripts as the case progresses in court but it also has you questioning what you think you know. It tugs on your heartstrings and makes you question why some people become parents or behave the way they do and I felt sorry for the middle daughter, proving the author was very clever with her writing making you care about a character that you didn't even meet. Over all it is a good suspense novel.
Michelle Babb once again does an excellent job with the narration and is quickly becoming one of my favourite narrators because I haven't found anyone else that can bring the characters to life and build up the tension like she can.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
