About this listen

Everyone goes for the jugular. The body of a young lawyer is found in an alley, and the suspicious circumstances of his death arouse Los Angeles PD Detective Desi Nimmo’s interest. As she pursues a complex series of clues of what caused his demise, the trail leads her into a seedy and dark side of LA's porn industry. She must also fend off the rivalry of disgraced Detective Fin McNab, who is desperate to regain his good standing with the brass and will stop at nothing to do so including snatching Desi's cases and investigating her personal past. As she doggedly pursues the case amid McNab’s interference, Desi uncovers a lucrative underground business and a cold-case murder but this is a world that doesn’t appreciate people asking questions. As she gets closer to the truth, Desi’s career - and life - hang in the balance.

Really enjoyable

If you enjoy a good dark police procedural with an unusual angle, this might be for you.

I did find the start a little slow however it picks up pace and was worth it. This is a well written and narrated story with good character development.

This was my first Christina Hoag novel and I will look out for more from her.

Engaging mystery with interesting detectives

Interesting mystery and not overly graphic or stretched out. I enjoyed listening to the perspectives of the two detectives Desi Nimmo and Fin McNab as they try to figure out both what was behind the victim's death and how to interact with each other. We see the investigation from the two detectives point of views who prove to be interesting and complex characters and the book does a good job exploring their strengths and anxieties. Bianca Pierson does a good job voicing the two leads.

I was given a free copy at my request and have voluntarily left this review which has not been influenced by the party that provided it.

great listen intriguing and well written

This is a listen that you can listen to in a session and despite the story line is not too graphic. The narrator does a fantastic job on bringing the characters to live.

I am off to investigate more by the author and the narrator fully recommend adding this to your library.

Enjoyable

This isn't a book I'd typically pick up but I enjoyed this one. The story was interesting with enough pace to keep it moving along and keep my attention. It was well written. The characters had interesting arcs and i enjoyed the development and interaction within the book.

The narration was good. I enjoyed Bianca performing this one and would definitely be willing to check out other works of hers.

Good listen, satisfying conclusion and one I'm very happy to have given my time to! I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in a light crime-orientated story.

Suspense Thriller

Interesting story, which I did find a bit slow to start with but if you stick with it, it can be engaging and well orated. Story of a body found in an ally way near a coffee shop with all the hallmarks of a homeless person but when detectives look into him it soon became clear all is not what it seems, and that said the same about the two detectives allocated this crime. Desi and Finbar or Fin have their differences but both hope they have each other's back as the crime seems to take on BDSM and some seedy places.
It was well narrated by Christina Hoag, and perhaps reading the written word might be an advantage. as well as listening.

Very Good

This is an excellent listen. The story is intertsting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Easily completed in one sitting. A little disturbing in places but not too graphic if might not suit the very squeamish. Bianca Pierson does a great job of the narration bringing the characters to life. This is the first Christina Hoag book I have read and I look forward to reading more of her work. Highly recommended.
