About this listen

Escape to Cornwall with this gorgeous new series from Phillipa Ashley – perfect for fans of Nicola May and Holly Martin.

Summer is on the horizon and the people of Porthmellow are eagerly awaiting the annual food festival. At least, most of them are....

For Sam Lovell, organising the summer festival in her hometown is one of the highlights of her year. It’s not always smooth sailing, but she loves to see Porthmellow’s harbour packed with happy visitors and being on the committee has provided a much-needed distraction from the drama in her family life (and the distinct lack of it in her love life). When their star guest pulls out with only a few weeks to go, everyone’s delighted when a London chef who grew up locally steps in at the last minute. But Gabe Matthias is the last person Sam was expecting to see and his return to Porthmellow will change her quiet coastal life for ever.

I could picture the people in the book very easily. it took me away from the real world and so it was lovely and relaxing, thank you for that.

really good fun.

This was a sweet story. Nothing to write home about and so I don’t feel I can give it more than 3 stars. However it was enjoyable and nice to read about seaside Cornish villages during this lockdown time! The narrator was good, one or two characters sounded a little similar but on the whole was good. I’d recommend if you want a quick read/listen and some escapism.

Sweet story

A good listen which brings Cornwall to you when you cannot get there because of Lockdown. A feel-good book, easy listening but you don't get the denouement until the end. I like happy endings and the different Cornish voices are well acted. i will be trying more Philippa Ashley when I need another Cornwall fix.

This was on offer and it was a fine wed story to listen to. repeated facts at time that weren't necessary.
predictable storyline.
fine if you just want an easy listen.

an ok listen

This one fell into the 'Pleasant Listen' category. It's not the sort of tale that you want to sneak a listen to at every available opportunity, but I didn't get so bored that I found it a struggle to get to the end of it - and recently there have been a few that I wonder why I'm bothering to keep listening to.
So, a pleasant, if predictable tale and easy to listen to

Okay, but not riveting

Nothing particularly exciting and a slightly repetitive storyline but an easy listen nonetheless. Loved the narration, excellent storytelling.

Easy listening chick lit
