Summary

A killer is hiding in plain sight, like a snake in the long grass...

When Dr Nell Ward stumbles across a woman's body amongst the purple heather on Furze Heath, she was on the lookout for nests of poisonous adders.

But something is lurking out here far more dangerous than vipers.

A cold-blooded killer is on the loose and this is not his first victim. As DI James Clark begins to investigate, a pattern emerges pointing towards this being the work of a serial killer. Every victim shares the same physical characteristics - all of which are a match to Nell herself.

As Nell is pulled into a tightly coiled mystery, she can't help feeling someone is tracking her every move...

Can she unmask the murderer before they strike again?

The fourth book in the Nell Ward cosy crime series. A completely gripping cosy mystery, perfect for fans of Richard Osman, Janice Hallett and Robert Thorogood.

Fantastic book

Love these books have read/ listened all four of them. Brilliant story gripping but also an informative. Great characters with their own stories to tell. I really liked the Narrator she brings the story to life by her way of depicting each character. Would definitely recommend theses books.

Much better than book 3!

I almost didnt buy this audio as i found the previous book annoying. Im glad i did though as i quite enjoyed this one. It's probably the best so far and Nell didnt annoy me quite as much.

My one criticism is that the author drags the ending out longer than it needs to be. We already have the story concluded & murder mystery solved but she insists on having all the characters sitting together at the end, being all jolly, listening to how the wonderful Nell solved the murder, then various members of the police & disregard confidentiality and spread gossip...It goes on...and on...and on!

Excellent

Every bit as intriguing and entertaining as the first three, I especially loved the car journey towards the end, it was very intense.

The facts are very interesting

It spent too much time on a love story and not enough time with the detective story

Strongest book of the series so far

I have enjoyed most of the Nell Ward series so far (in order of preference Book 4, 1, 3 then 2). This is the most realistic in the series so far and I enjoyed the move back to a more ecological basis for solving the murder after the departure for book 2. More like this one please Sarah Yarwood-Lovett!

Actually great

I never give books five stars unless they are brilliant epics (Strike novels, North and South, Gone with the Wind, Harry Potter etc) but these books deserve it for knowledge, application and ingenuity intertwined into a novel

No likeable characters.

Didn’t really care what happened to any of the characters especially the self entitled wealthy kid with a saviour complex Nell.
That’s not really good - you should be hoping at least one character should get away.
Performance hammy. Just read it.
