Couldn't finish

This book, a summary: "For your own safety, don't do the thing!" Does the thing, ends up in life threatening situation, gets rescued. "Seriously, do NOT do the thing!" Does the thing, get rescued, glimpse his well muscled body. "Really! I'm losing patience here! DO NOT DO THE THING!" Does the thing, gets rescued, notices more of his body.
Intermingled with thinking about how her family doesn't care about her.
All set in a "Beauty and the Beast" copy.

But the narration was good.

My next binge

I loved Sarah J Mass' last series and can see the same thing happening with this. Although I wasn't too sure of Jennifer Ikeda's narration at first, I very quickly warmed to it. I would absolutely recommend this book to any and all fantasy fans.

Amazing voice actor but awful book

Please don’t waste your time on this book. It is so poorly written, and all of the characters are the same. Like I wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference between basically all of the high fae which is just shoddy writing. There is very little word building and the pacing is VERY patchy. I found the relationships that develop are weird and not developed and they just end up switching from hating to loving each other in a matter of pages. If that wasn’t enough, they are also abusive and toxic and this isn’t condemned once by the author - it’s not like an enemies to lovers thing (which I have no problem with) it’s like “frail human girl is kidnapped by fairy who doesn’t respect her boundaries and doesn’t seem to understand consent”. Gives me the ick that this is advertised as YA too with the explicit sex and torture scenes.

That said, the voice actress did the best she could with the source material she had!

Intense and emotional

First time listening to an audiobook. It was definitely worth it. The author constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat, making you ache in anticipation at what comes next. The plot made me think extremely hard as it was well written and thought out. I loved the forbidden romance aspect and trials that Feyra and Tamlin had to experience, it was painful but emphasised their love even more.
Would definitely read/listen to this again.

Jury still out

I didn't quite get into this book, it just didn't quite make sense. I really enjoyed the Assassin series of books so I will give the next one of these a try to see if the plot gets better but for me not as good as the other Maas books.

ACOTAR REVIEW

***POTENTIAL SPOILERS***

Having so recently finished the Throne of Glass series, the urge to compare the two is high.

I wasn't so sure I'd come to like the characters as much, and it certainly took me a little while longer to warm to them.

Part of the barrier initially was that I was on audio book during my morning commute. I didn't gel with Jennifer Ikeda (who narrates this book) to begin with, but after a few chapters it started to flow more.

Feyre is an interesting protagonist. There's the juxtaposition between being the savvy, hard working, hunter gatherer of her family (following her gut when stalking the wolf in the opening chapters), and the polar opposite when thrust into Prythian where she seems to make poor judgement calls (easily believing that her father has come to her aid despite the many obstacles he'd have faced) and putting herself in harms way.

I'm typical SJM style, you tag your romantic interest early on, only to have whiplash by the end of the book. It's one of the things I like most about her stories.... And it reminds me not to get too comfortable ☺

That said, despite Rhysands good intentions I cannot see how Feyre can see him in another light..... But this is the girl who has forgiven the man she loves for manoeuvring her into killing an innocent fae and then kidnapped her under false pretenses.

Maybe I'm in need of chocolate, maybe I'm a bit cynical, but I don't think Rhysand is going to be replacing Rowan in my heart any time soon.

I'm still excited for the next installment... Can I count on more Nesta and Lucien?

Does the book justice

I devoured this audio book as quickly as the paperback!
Starts off as an interesting adaption of beauty and the beast but ends up as a whole other creature. ;)

Stunning

Having discovered Sarah Maas' books mid 2018, I have not stopped listening since.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is set in a land of faeries and mortals. A love affair between a mortal and a High Fae Lord. This book starts off slowly, but really takes off after the first few chapters. I have to admit to finding Feyre a little naive and rambling, at times and, towards the end, I found the last trial she had to overcome predictable.

Tamlin and Feyre's love looks as though it will last through it all, but I have a feeling that a love triangle in the future between Feyre and Rhysand is on the cards. Lucian I feel a little sorry for as he seems to lose out, and, again, I feel he will end up the scapegoat in all of this.
