From stolen washing to inheritance investigations, Bruncliffe’s Dales Detective Agency is being inundated with cases. A fatal accident at Bruncliffe’s livestock auction mart leads to a call for detectives Samson O’Brien and Delilah Metcalfe. What starts as a simple health-and-safety investigation soon takes a sinister turn when they discover evidence that suggests murder. Clive Knowles approaches them for help – his sheep are being threatened by the gang of rustlers that is plaguing the Dales. Meanwhile, poacher Pete Ferris has also decided to play his hand, setting in motion a blackmail plot which will ensure Samson is pulled back into trouble with his nemesis Rick Procter.

The Dales Detective Agency is on the brink of closure. Samson O’Brien has returned to his position as an undercover operative for the Met in London, and his relationship with Delilah is under pressure. Their troubles are only multiplied when an ecologist is found dead and the finger of blame is pointed firmly at Delilah’s older brother, Will Metcalfe. It seems an open and shut case. An argument over an ecology report for planning permission which got out of hand, with Will known to have a hot temper. But Delilah won’t accept he’s guilty and neither will Samson.

Detective Samson O'Brien is ready to settle down to a nice cup of tea, but it's not long before he's called on for help with a new case. In order to execute a recent will, solicitor Matty Thistlethwaite requires a copy of a death certificate for a young woman who died when Samson was a child. It should be straightforward, but things in Bruncliffe rarely are. Particularly when Matty insists that Delilah Metcalfe, with her wealth of local knowledge, works alongside Samson on the sensitive investigation.

Dans toute cette agitation, il n'y a que le vétérinaire du coin pour s'inquiéter d'une série de morts inhabituelle au sein de sa clientèle canine : plusieurs chiens ont été empoisonnés.

Deuxième volet d'une série so british, "Rendez-vous avec le mal" est un polar drôle, plein de charme et au casting haut en couleur. Quand Mme Shepherd vient voir Samson O'Brien à l'Agence de Recherche des Vallons, convaincue que quelqu'un essaie de la tuer, le détective privé pense avoir affaire à une vieille dame un peu sénile.

Gerne würde Samson O'Brien seine Detektivagentur einfach mal zusperren und gemütlich eine Tasse Tee trinken. Doch der Anwalt Matty Thistlethwaite bittet ihn um Hilfe. Um den letzten Willen einer Verstorbenen zu erfüllen, benötigt er die Sterbeurkunde einer jungen Frau aus Bruncliffe, die vor vielen Jahren den Tod gefunden hat. Eigentlich eine einfache Sache. Aber in Bruncliffe ist selten etwas einfach. Vor allem, da der Anwalt darauf besteht, dass Samson seine Nachbarin Delilah Metcalfe zu Rate zieht, die über einen unerschöpflichen Fundus an lokalem Wissen verfügt.

Als Mrs Shepherd an einem kalten Dezembermorgen die Dales Detective Agentur betritt, felsenfest davon überzeugt, dass jemand sie umbringen will, tut Samson O'Brien ihre Befürchtungen als die Gespinste einer verwirrten alten Dame ab. Doch im Altersheim des Ortes häufen sich plötzlich merkwürdige Vorfälle, und so fragt er sich, ob an der Sache nicht doch etwas dran sein könnte. Erneut müssen Samson und Delilah zusammenarbeiten, um dem Schurken, der den alten Menschen Böses will, das Handwerk zu legen. Viel Zeit bleibt ihnen dabei nicht.

Die Dinge nehmen eine überraschende Wendung, als Samson den angeblichen Selbstmord eines Einheimischen untersuchen soll und eine Spur ihn direkt zu Delilah führt.
