    Welcome to episode 404 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to be speaking with Dr. Daniel Watter. In this conversation, we discuss his insightful book: “The Existential Importance of the Penis: A Guide to Understanding Male Sexuality”. Dr. Watter explains how childhood trauma can influence sexual dysfunction, why men might experience erectile unpredictability in deepening relationships, and how existential crises can lead men to seek a functioning penis at great lengths.


    Dr. Watter is an AASECT-certified sex therapy supervisor and has been elected to Fellowship Status in the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) and the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA). In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Watter has held several faculty appointments. Currently, he is a faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Social Work’s Sexual Certification Program and the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes.


    A frequent lecturer at professional meetings throughout North America, Dr. Watter is the author of more than 30 professional articles and book chapters on topics such as sexual function and dysfunction, and ethics in healthcare practice. He is the author of the recently released book, “The Existential Importance of the Penis: A Guide to Understanding Male Sexuality”.
