Summary

Read by James Buckley a.k.a. unforgettable Jay from The Inbetweeners.

With his trademark brand of bulldozer-banter, Twitter legend James Felton guides you through the most morbidly fascinating facts you'll then wish you could forget.

Ever wondered why the chainsaw was invented?* How authorities dealt with a beached whale back in ye olde days of 1970?** Or what being a human decanter entails?*** Then you've come to the right place!

Here you'll find the maddest, strangest and downright grossest stories from history, nature and science that you don't want to know. (Except secretly you really do you masochistic, beastly person you.) Painfully funny and drop-your-jaw ridiculous, this is trivia from the cesspit of time that you won't be able to stop listening to once you start.

*To aid childbirth.

**They exploded it with 100 times too much dynamite and rained blubber down on unsuspecting people and buildings.

***Decency prevents us from answering this one here. You'll have to buy the book to find out.

fun listen but hard going at times

Interesting stories are presented in a very easy to listen bitesized way. The narrator is not the best.

Good content by tries to be funny to the point it’s unbearable

I managed about an hour and a half of this but had to stop. I found the facts interesting but the author tries so hard to be funny yet fails miserably. Every other line is a poor attempt at a joke. It’s not James Buckley’s delivery, he can only read what’s in front of him, but it’s cringeworthy to the point of unbearable. There is a weekly podcast that deals with interesting facts but actually does make me laugh, so I think I’ll stick with that. Shame.

Almost packed it in but then nearly died.

I gave up on this way too quick to begin with. I thought it was boring, couldn't get into it and almost refunded it. Fortunately I couldn't because I'd already been on a refund spree and was stopped.
I went back to it after a couple of weeks and decided to give it a go while waiting for my kids to come out of school. Bad idea.
I was caught off guard and totally embarrassed myself by simultaneously laughing and choking into my water bottle and heaving after I'd inhaled some. A couple of people came over and asked if I was OK and everyone else looked very uncomfortable. My kids' first question was "What's wrong with your face?".

I love the fact that you can practically hear the narrator smile during certain bits.

I am now the crazy parent, everyone gives me a wide berth and nobody will talk to me. Perfect! 10/10

All the stuff you really didn't want to know...

But so thankful you now do... What a bloody fantastic listen... James Buckley narration is a stroke of genius when explaining penguins mating habits and handjob jury's... Mr Felton has managed to hit the nail on the head here of a perfect balance of tact and humour, many a time in work I was bursting out laughing at the absurdity of the facts all slotted into great sized chapters, not too long but just enough details to make you want to consider to bleach your brain lol

One of the funniest books I've listened to this year,, highly recommend... And no.. I'm not doing this because James asked me to on twitter... Defo not 👀

Funny at points

I found this funny at points, it is a good distraction, but it was not engaging and I struggled to finish it

Step 1. Know your audience.

I wouldn’t say this is things you don’t want to know. More things you wish humans hadn’t done. But it amounts to the same thing.

Just a fun and easy listen

Not much to say other than this is just a fun book. Each chapter is a few mins long and is a standalone story. So perfect for dipping in and out. Some very interesting stories. Worth a listen.

Interesting and entertaining (but not laugh out loud)

Overall interesting and entertaining book with lots of weird stories from history. I’d definitely recommend to anyone interested in hearing about history in a lighthearted way.
