About this listen
One wrong turn. One right man.
Colin. Rule-follower. Future doctor. Witness to murder. Captive.
Taron. Survivalist. Mute. Murderer. Captor.
Like every other weekend, Colin is on his way home from university, but he’s taunted by the notion that he never takes risks in life and always follows the beaten path. On impulse, he decides to take a different route. Just this one time. What he doesn’t realize is that it’s the last time he has a choice.
He ends up taking a detour into the darkest pit of horror, abducted by a silent, imposing man with a blood-stained axe. But what seems like his worst nightmare might just prove to be a path to the kind of freedom Colin never knew existed.
Taron has lived alone for years. His land, his rules. He’d given up on company long ago. After all, attachment is a liability. He deals with his problems on his own, but the night he needs to dispose of an enemy, he ends up with a witness to his crime.
The last thing Taron needs is a nuisance of a captive. Colin doesn’t deserve death for setting foot on Taron’s land, but keeping him isn’t optimal either. It’s only when he finds out the city boy is gay that an altogether different option arises. One that isn’t right, yet tempts him every time Colin’s pretty eyes glare at him from the cage.
Warning:or adult readers who enjoy stories where lines between right and wrong get blurry. High heat, twisted and tantalizing, not for the fainthearted.

HEA? HELL YEAH
Review added:
I was hyping this book since the day I lay my eyes on it. That said, I was afraid I woudn't like because of it. To much expectations, you know? But - thank goodness - I was wrong. This was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
So, like the most, I was skeptical about the mute MC. I couldn't see how it would work. But it did, K.A Merikan did an amazing job. When the story begins, you feel the emotions through Collin's eyes. And man, I was scared when the axed killer appeared. And he didn't talk! He look like some animal (a bear actually) and I couldn't see him as a person, neither did Colin. And that terrify me. I kept thinking How the hell would this work? He is an animal, not a human being!
The more time passed, more confused I got about Taron's intentions. I mean, he killed a guy, why not killed Collin? And boy, I was antsy as shit. LoL The revelations about Taron's intentions was explored slowly, but not the boring way, the good way. It was real, nothing rushed. Collin was a great MC too, even conflicted about his abductor, he never stops thinking about leaving. Which was only natural. I mean, you are held prisoner, beaten and treated poorly, even though was good moments, why would you stay without your freedom?
And, well, I love cats and I love them more than most humans. Taron love cats more than humans, so... Can you hate a guy who risk his life to save a kitty?! I can't, sorry. LoL Collin can't too and I end up relating so much with him, it was hard. I was conflicted as he was.
As you can see, K.A. Merikan did an amazing job writing this book. I could immerse deeply into the story, the characters. And they connect so well *sighs*. Also, this is a showing not a telling one, which I appreciate thank you very much.
Oh, this isn't much dark (I think?), at least not for me. The romance itself crashed the dark themes with an axe (see what I did there?). I mean, it was dark, but nothing psychological with lots of angst and humiliation, that kind of stuff. I guess the MC's choices was less than moral, that's the darkest parts in my humble opinion. But hey, I love cat's and I can't blame Taron or Collin for making them!
Taron is the sweetest killer in the world \o/
PS: Wyatt Baker sexy voice was a sweet addition to this beautiful book <3

Caged love!
Arrogant med student, Colin, loses his way one night and ends up witnessing a murder. Doomsday prepper, Talon, can’t allow Colin to go the police so decides to keep him in a cage. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel as squeamish about this as other K.A. Merikan novels. Apart from a couple of grizzly murders, the story focuses on the developing feelings between captor and captive without any torture or humiliation. Both Colin and Talon evolved over time, although neither were very unpleasant people to begin with. My only grumble: I felt the motive for the original murder was never satisfactorily explained. 🎧 Wyatt Baker gave a good narrative performance. His deeper, tougher voice makes him the go-to guy for these stories.

Morally twisted and depraved!
I love how dark and twisted this was.
This was morally depraved and wrong on so many levels but I couldn't help but crave the Darkness.
Taron and Colin couldn't be more opposite and yet the chemistry between them was intense and palpable.
Wyatt Baker's narration and performance was enjoyable and engaging.

Terrific Story & Listen🎧 A Dark & Twisted🔥Romance!
This dark and twisted romance captivated my attention from start to end. It is my first K.A. Merikan book and it definitely will not be my last, I enjoyed their writing style and the interesting and original story they created. I liked the two lead characters, yes even the captor, I found him to be the most interesting of the two. Colin the captive, is on his way home from University, he is having thoughts of how his life is in a rut, he has nothing but his studies to become a doctor, no friends to speak of and not the most caring parents. He decides to do something out of the norm and takes a different route home. That route took him off the beaten path and right into a murder scene. Taron, the captor, is in a predicament, he is not sure what to with this person who witnessed what he just did so he just he throws him in a cage in his cellar. Taron is a loner and a survivalist, it was great to learn more about him, his choice of living and what he was all about. A simple, yet complex man, there is a turn in the relationship of the two men, is it just Stockholm syndrome or is it real. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted and there is never a dull moment. There is plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, thrilling and suspenseful moments as well as heartfelt and emotional ones and some hot loving. K.A Merikan thank you for this terrific story. Shout out to the way you presented the use of sign language in your text, great job well done!!
Wyatt Baker is a fantastic narrator and voice artist. He was perfectly casted to bring these characters to life. He gives each their own voice and personalty as well as heart and attitude. He does a great job portraying the characters, grasping their persona completely, emotions and all. He is talented and entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

Deviously good
I love a gritty romance and Kat and Agnes are fantastic at creating morally ambiguous characters with so much more to them than meets the eye!
while this story may have started out violent and morally grey, the reasoning behind it all was much more tame. I enjoyed the steam and back and forth between Taron and Colin and I felt their connection transcend the questionable situation.
I'm not sure when this book was written but in these troubling times the situation the book ends on is very eerily similar to the current situation of a covid world - spooky

Felt like touture
Really struggled to finish. Jumped to end in an effort to see if i could remove from library and device. Narrator made good effort to read this. This couple had set up for very unhealthy controlling, possibly abusive relationship. Really tred to endure this book and hope light bulb moment ive asked for refund which I really hope they give me.
I like mm romance this was sold as such, but should be in delusional, stupid, blind, brain dead category.
